Storm Coordination Message #2 – Saturday 12/18/21-Early Sunday AM 12/19/21 Wintry Mix

Hello to all…

..Accumulating snow across Northern Massachusetts along and north of Route 2 changing to a wintry mix with a wintry mix across other interior portions of Massachusetts..
..A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 7 AM Sunday Morning for Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Worcester, Northern and Central Middlesex Counties of Massachusetts for 1-3″ of snow with isolated higher amounts and the highest snowfall amounts along and north of route 2 along with a trace to one-tenth inch of ice resulting in slippery travel. Key factors for this storm will be the amount of snow versus wintry mix and how much ice accretion occurs with cold air at the surface with conditions remaining warm aloft. Trends are more towards a wintry mix which has meant lowering snow amounts slightly..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor for snowfall, ice accretion and change in precipitation type reports. This will be the last coordination message as we shift into operations mode. Below is the NWS Boston/Norton Winter Weather Advisory statement, Area Forecast Discussion and snowfall/ice accretion maps..
