A moderate plowable snowstorm remains likely for much of Southern New England late Monday Night into Tuesday Afternoon. The headlines depict the current thinking. Key factors include:
1.) The strength of the approaching system as if its able to maintain strength further south and east, it could result in a bit more snowfall and those model trends of a bit of a stronger system has continued so the Winter Storm Warning was expanded to more of the region.
2.) Exact placement of the heaviest snowfall. The highest confidence is in the current Winter Storm Warning areas but other portions of the Winter Weather Advisory area will be monitored.
3.) The amount of mixing along southeast coastal areas in addition to precipitation intensity for this region. This is the area of greatest uncertainty on snow amounts.
4.) Winds and snow consistency should be such that tree and power line damage should be minimal but this will be monitored closely.

SKYWARN Self-Activation with Amateur Radio Call-Up Nets are likely and an updated schedule of Amateur Radio Nets is listed in this message mostly centered from Tuesday Morning through mid-afternoon Tuesday though there will be one or two late Monday evening call-up nets in Western Massachusetts. Winter Weather Advisories expanded in time and in area to include more of Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts for later Thursday into Friday Morning..
..A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect from 4 AM Friday for Northern Connecticut, Northwest Providence County Rhode Island, Franklin, Hampshire, Hampden, Worcester, all of Middlesex and Essex Counties of Massachusetts for up to 2″ of snow and around 1/4″ of ice accumulation. Storm Coordination Message #1 – Tuesday 2/21/23-Thursday Evening 2/23/23 – Various Storms & Wintry Precipitation

Hello to all…

..Light Snowfall expected in two areas – one area is in Southeast Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut overnight Monday Night into mid-Tuesday Morning. Snowfall amounts of a Coating to 1″ are expected currently though some high resolution models have hinted at higher amounts though that is not the most plausible scenario at this time. ..A second round of light snow and wintry mix is possible across Western, North-Central and Northeast Massachusetts where a coating to 3″ of snow with isolated higher amounts are possible in the late Tuesday Afternoon to Tuesday Night timeframe..
..A widespread wintry mix/icing event is likely Wednesday Night into Thursday Night for much of Southern New England but especially north and west of the I-95 corridor. What the predominant form of precipitation occurs is unclear at this time but both the Thursday Morning and Evening commutes could be hazardous for our region..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor all three storm systems starring with the first two storm systems overnight tonight into mid-morning Tuesday and late Tuesday Afternoon through Tuesday Night. If time allows, another coordination message on the various storm systems will be posted by 11 AM Tuesday Morning. ..Snow Squalls with the Arctic cold frontal passage are possible in interior Southern New England, particularly in interior Northern Massachusetts, late Thursday Night into Friday Morning possibly affecting the morning commute. A round of ocean effect snow could affect portions of Cape Cod and the Islands late Friday Night into early Saturday Morning and these hazards will be monitored though the main hazard remains the dangerous cold, wind chills and any isolated power outages caused by the strong winds in this period. Temperatures will modify to near normal levels on Sunday..
..Eastern Massachusetts ARES will be conducting an ARES exercise on Saturday 2/4/22 from 1000 AM-1200 PM and will be accepting low temperature, low wind chill, snowfall, wind gust and wind damage reports. See https://ema.arrl.org/2023/02/02/eastern-massachusetts-ares-exercise-winter-wipeout-saturday-2-4-23-1000-am-1200-pm-et/ for info and frequency information. All are welcome to participate both inside and outside the Eastern Massachusetts section..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor the dangerous cold in terms of low temperatures and wind chills, measured wind gusts 40 MPH or greater and any isolated wind damage, and snowfall measurements from snow squalls and ocean effect snow in those localized areas affected late Thursday Night into Saturday. Its noted that there could be quite a bit of sea smoke in coastal areas around Southern New England within about 1-2 hours of sunrise Saturday Morning that could offer some rare pictures of this phenomenon in coastal areas as very cold air progresses over warmer ocean waters. Pictures and videos of storm damage and sea smoke can be sent as a reply to this email, via our WX1BOX Facebook/Twitter feeds or to the email address pics@nsradio.org..
