Storm Coordination Message #1 – Friday Evening 10/20/23-Sunday Afternoon 10/22/23 – Heavy Rainfall & Strong Wind Potential

Hello to all…

..Heavy rainfall will affect Southern New England Friday Night through Saturday Night with strong winds affecting the region Saturday Evening through mid-afternoon Sunday. Rainfall is expected to be between 1-3″ over a 24-36 hour period across Western and Central Massachusetts, Northern Connecticut and Western and Northern Rhode Island with highest amounts in Western Massachusetts and Northwest Connecticut. Amounts of 0.25-1″ are expected for the rest of Southern New England..
..A Wind Advisory is now in effect from 5 PM Saturday Evening to 2 PM Sunday Afternoon for Nantucket for sustained winds of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH. Much of the rest of Southern New England could see wind gusts in this timeframe of around 40 MPH with isolated higher gusts to 45 MPH and the possibility for somewhat stronger winds resulting in an expansion of the Wind Advisories and that will be monitored. With trees still near fully leaved, these winds may cause isolated pockets of tree and power line damage and isolated power outages..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor for rain gauge reports 1″ or more, any flooding, measured wind gusts 40 MPH or greater any wind damage reports. Another coordination message will be posted by 1000 AM Saturday Morning if a significant update to the situation occurs and time allows for an update.
