Storm Coordination Message #2 – Late Tuesday Night 12/31/24-Wednesday AM 1/1/25 Brief Heavy Rainfall – Thursday 1/2/25 Strong to Damaging Wind Potential

Hello to all…

..Happy New Year to all Amateur Radio and non-Amateur Radio SKYWARN Spotters. We look forward to working with everyone in the new year!..
..Another storm system will bring a quick hitting soaking rainfall of 0.50-1″ with isolated higher amounts New Years Eve Night (Tuesday Night) through New Years Day Morning (Wednesday Morning) with the possibility of embedded thunderstorms. After this rainfall, the pressure gradient between this storm system and high pressure moving into the area will bring the potential for strong to damaging winds over all of Southern New England Wednesday Evening through Thursday Evening..
..A Wind Advisory is now in effect from 7 PM Wednesday Evening through 10 PM Thursday Evening for the entire NWS Norton coverage area for sustained winds of 20-30 MPH with wind gusts of 45-55 MPH with isolated higher wind gusts in the higher elevations of Western and Central Massachusetts of 60 MPH. These winds will cause isolated to scattered pockets of tree and power line damage and power outages..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor for rain gauge reports late Tuesday Night into Wednesday Morning. SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor the potential strong to damaging winds for Wednesday Evening through Thursday Evening across Southern New England. Pictures and videos of wind damage can be sent as a reply to this message, via our WX1BOX Facebook and Twitter feeds and to the email address pics@nsradio.org with credit given to the spotter unless otherwise indicated..

Happy New Year to all Amateur Radio and non-Amateur Radio SKYWARN Spotters. We look forward to working with all of you again in the new year. The headlines depict the current thinking on a period of heavy rainfall and even embedded thunderstorms after 10 PM this evening into Wednesday Morning followed by strong to damaging wind gusts Wednesday Evening into Thursday Evening in the region. The key factors on the strong to damaging wind potential are as follows:

1.) Strong mixing of the air allowing the strongest potential wind gusts of 60 MPH reaching the surface particularly in Western and Central Massachusetts.
2.) The prolonged nature of the strong wind gusts allowing for additional pockets of wind damage over a longer period of time.
3.) Whether wind gusts at the coast will be as strong as what we see farther inland in the higher elevations.

SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor for rain gauge reports late Tuesday Night into Wednesday Morning. SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor the potential strong to damaging winds for Wednesday Evening through Thursday Evening across Southern New England.
