Wind Coordination Message #1 – Sunday January 20th 2013 Potential Wind Event

Hello to all..

..A cold front will move through the region bringing colder air and strong winds as the front approaches and passes through Southern New England..
..A Wind Advisory is in effect from 900 AM to 10 PM Today for the entire NWS Taunton Coverage Area for sustained winds of 15 to 25 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH. The strongest winds will likely occur this afternoon and evening as the front moves through the region. These winds may be enough to cause isolated pockets of tree and wire damage and possibly isolated power outages..
..It is noted that a coastal storm system will follow Monday Night into Tuesday bringing the potential for a moderate to possibly even heavy snowstorm to portions of East Coastal and Southeast Massachusetts and parts of Rhode Island. Coordination Messages for this storm system may start later tonight. Another coastal storm system is possible Friday but it is too early to get into details on that system..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will be utilized to monitor the strong winds for today across the region. Below is the NWS Taunton Wind Advisory statement and Hazardous Weather Outlook..
