Storm and Extreme Cold Coordination Message #1 – Friday Night Cape & Islands Snow Potential and Weekend Extreme Cold And Strong Wind Potential
Hello to all..
..Extreme Cold Conditions will affect Southern New England over the course of this weekend with dangerous and life-threatening cold wind chills and dangerously cold ambient air temperatures. Temperatures will moderate over the course of the day Monday..
..A Wind Chill Watch is in effect from Saturday Afternoon through Sunday Afternoon for the entire NWS Taunton coverage area except for Cape Cod and the Islands for life threatening wind chills and record cold temperatures. Wind Chills could dip as low as 15 to 20 below zero with isolated interior locations hitting 30 below zero. Ambient air temperatures will be 5 below to 5 above zero at the coast and 5 below zero to 15 below zero in the interior. Winds will be sustained at 15-25 MPH with gusts in the 35-40 MPH range with isolated higher gusts possible..
..An accumulating snow is possible over Cape Cod and the Islands for Friday Night into early Saturday Morning as a coastal storm tracks well offshore but throws back some light to possibly moderate snow over the Cape and Islands..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor the possibility of snow over the Cape and Islands Friday Night into early Saturday Morning..
The coldest air of the 2015-2016 winter season will affect Southern New England with a Wind Chill Watch in affect for much of Southern New England except for Cape Cod and the Islands from Saturday Afternoon through Sunday Afternoon. While the Cape and Islands are not part of the Wind Chill Watch area, bitterly cold wind chills and cold ambient air temperatures are expected in this area as well.
In addition to the extreme cold conditions expected this weekend, a round of accumulating snow is possible over Cape Cod and the Islands for Friday Night into early Saturday Morning as a coastal storm tracks well offshore but throws back some light to possibly moderate snow over the Cape and the Islands. At this time, 1-3″ of snow is likely but is possible amounts could be slightly higher and result in Winter Weather Advisories being issued for this area and this will be monitored.
SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor the possibility of snow over the Cape and Islands Friday Night into early Saturday Morning. Another coordination message will be posted by 9 AM Friday Morning on the snow potential for Cape Cod and the extreme cold conditions for the entire region.
