Storm Coordination Message #1 – Tuesday Night 11/15/22 through Wednesday 11/16/22 – First Snow of the Season & Storm Hazards

Hello to all…

..First snow of the season has commenced over Western and Northern Massachusetts and Northwest Connecticut and this first snow along with some sleet and freezing rain will make for some slippery travel in this area particularly at the higher elevations. Other parts of interior Southern New England may see some snow and a brief coating but not much travel impacts..
..A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through 1000 AM Wednesday for Hartford County Connecticut and Franklin, Northern Worcester, Northern Middlesex, Western Hampshire and Western Hampden Counties of Massachusetts for a coating to 2″ of snow with the highest amounts in the higher elevations particularly above 1000 feet and a glaze to 0.20″ of ice particularly over elevations above 1000 feet. There could be some slippery travel in these areas during the advisory timeframe but any slick roads should remain in the higher elevations..
..Rainfall of around 1″ is expected across much of Southern New England and a few embedded thunderstorms could bring isolated wind gusts up to 40 MPH to localized areas..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor any measured snowfall totals and ice accretion reports for this storm event as well as rain gauge and any strong wind reports tonight through Wednesday. This will be the only coordination message on this storm event unless a significant upgrade to the situation occurs and time allows for an update.
