Storm Coordination Message #2 – Heavy Rainfall/Flood Potential – Wednesday Evening 3/6/24-Thursday 3/7/24
Hello to all…
..Heavy Rainfall and potential flooding for portions of Southern New England for Wednesday Night into Thursday aggravating already wet antecedent conditions..
..A Flood Watch is now in effect from Wednesday Afternoon into Thursday Evening and has been expanded to Northern Connecticut, Eastern Hampden, Worcester, Essex, Middlesex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Bristol, Plymouth Counties of Massachusetts and all of Rhode Island except for Block Island RI for 2-4″ of rainfall with isolated higher amounts. The recent wet antecedent conditions and additional heavy rainfall can result in flooding of urban and poor drainage areas, rivers and streams..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor for Rain Gauge reports 1″ or more and flood potential for Wednesday Afternoon into Thursday Evening. Pictures and videos of flooding can be sent as a reply to this email, via the WX1BOX Facebook and Twitter feeds or via the email address pics@nsradio.org with credit given to the spotter unless otherwise indicated..
A storm system is expected to bring heavy rain and potential flooding given recent wet conditions in the region. The headlines depict the current thinking. Key factors include:
1.) Extent of flooding which is dependent on whether the low end or higher end of the rainfall range is met and over how wide of area.
2.) There will be an axis of heavier rainfall in an area of widespread 2-3″ of rain but that axis could setup anywhere within the Flood watch area. This will be the area that has the best potential for flooding of urban areas, rivers and streams.
SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor the heavy rainfall and flood potential for Wednesday Afternoon into Thursday Evening. Pictures and videos of flooding can be sent as a reply to this email, via the WX1BOX Facebook and Twitter feeds or via the email address pics@nsradio.org with credit given to the spotter unless otherwise indicated. The next coordination message will be posted by 11 AM Wednesday Morning.
