Storm Coordination Message #4 – Saturday Evening 2/8/25 Through Sunday Early PM 2/9/25 Winter Storm Potential

Hello to all…

..Active Weather Pattern Continues through the weekend with a moderate to significant winter storm for Saturday Night into early Sunday Afternoon..
..A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect from remains in effect from 7 PM Saturday Evening through 1 PM Sunday Afternoon for the entire NWS Norton Coverage Area except for Cape Cod and the Islands for 5-9″ of snow with isolated higher amounts..
..A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect from 7 PM Saturday Evening through 1 PM Sunday Afternoon for Cape Cod and the Islands for 4-6″ of snow. On the Cape and Islands, the snow ratio could be less or even have a period of mixed precipitation that cuts down snow amounts. If its a bit colder than currently forecast for this area, warning level snow amounts could occur..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation with Amateur Radio Call-Up Nets are likely for the Saturday Night to Sunday Morning Winter Storm. A few Amateur Radio Call-Up Nets will start Saturday Evening in western parts of the area with the remainder of the region’s call-up nets centered around Sunday Morning. Amateur Radio Call-Up Nets for Western Massachusetts and Cape Cod are listed in this message with the rest of the region’s nets to be listed in the Saturday Morning Coordination message..

An active weather pattern continues for Southern New England. Key factors for the winter storm for Saturday Night to Sunday includes:

1.) The current track of the winter storm would keep all areas snow except for possibly Cape Cod and the islands where the Winter Storm Watch was converted to a Winter Weather Advisory. If temperatures are a bit colder over Cape Cod and the Islands or precipitation is heavier, Warning levels of snow could occur and this will be monitored.
2.) Snowfall totals will be widespread plowable/shovelable snowfall based on the current storm track. One factor still being monitored particularly for Western Massachusetts and Western Connecticut is any dry slot Sunday Morning cutting snow off a bit earlier slightly reducing snow amounts. Eastern areas do not see any appreciable dry slotting until the snow ends late morning or around midday.
3.) Trends on storm intensity and model track will be monitored for any forecast changes.
