Storm Coordination Message #1 – Thursday Evening 8/21/25-Friday Evening 8/22/25 Rip Current/High Surf/Coastal Flooding/Strong Wind Gusts Potential

..Hurricane Erin will pass well south and east of Southern New England but its large size coupled with high pressure to the north will lead to strong to damaging wind gusts over the Cape and Islands, minor to low-end moderate coastal flooding in South Coastal Massachusetts/Rhode Island including Cape & Islands with some very minor splashover/coastal flooding in East Coastal Mass and high surf and rip currents across all East and South Coastal areas..
..A Wind Advisory is in effect from 5 PM Thursday Evening through 2 PM Friday Afternoon for Cape Cod and the Islands for sustained winds of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH and isolated higher gusts possible. Wind Gusts across the rest of East and South Coastal Massachusetts could see wind gusts around 40 MPH with isolated higher gusts. These winds could cause isolated to pockets of tree and wire damage and isolated power outages..
..A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 6 AM to 10 AM Friday Morning and 6 PM to 10 PM Friday Evening for Southern Bristol County Massachusetts, Newport, Washington, Southeast Providence, Eastern Kent and Bristol Counties of Rhode Island and from 10 PM Thursday Evening through 2 AM Friday Morning and 10 PM Friday Evening through 2 AM Saturday Morning for Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Islands for minor to low-end moderate coastal flooding at the time of these high tide cycles..
..A Coastal Flood Statement is in effect from late Thursday Evening to late Friday Night for East Coastal Massachusetts including Cape Cod and the Islands for minor splashover and minor coastal flooding at the time of high tide cycles in these areas..
..A High Surf Advisory is in effect through 8 PM Saturday for South Coastal Massachusetts and Rhode Island and Eastern Essex and Eastern Plymouth Counties of Massachusetts due to rip currents and high surf hazardous to swimmers..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor for measured wind gusts 40 MPH or greater, wind damage, coastal flooding/high surf/rip current reports. Pictures and videos of any wind damage, high surf, coastal flooding can be sent as a reply to this email, via the WX1BOX Facebook/X/Bluesky feeds and to the email address of pics@nsradio.org with credit to the spotter unless otherwise indicated. This will be the only coordination message on this event unless a significant update to the situation occurs and time allows for an update.
