Storm Coordination Message #1 – Tuesday Evening 1/6/26-Late Wednesday AM 1/7/26 Freezing Rain/Icing Potential
Hello to all…
..A storm system will bring the potential for icing in interior Southern New England particularly along, north and west of the I-95 corridor Tuesday Night into early Wednesday Morning. If you must travel, use caution and allow plenty of extra time to reach your destination or travel before the ice arrives or after the freezing rain occurs which will be by mid to late morning with some impact to the Wednesday AM commute possible..
..A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 PM Tuesday Night and 10 AM Wednesday Morning for Northern Connecticut, Franklin, Hampshire, Hampden, Worcester, Middlesex, Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Northern Bristol Counties of Massachusetts, Northwest Providence and Kent Counties of Rhode Island for up to 1″ of snow and a trace to 0.20″ of ice with isolated higher amounts of icing along and north of Route 2 and in the Connecticut River Valley of Western Mass with trace amounts of ice in southeast portions of the Winter Weather Advisory area..
..The higher amounts of icing could cause isolated pockets of tree and power line damage and isolated power outages though current ice accumulations should preclude widespread icing damage. This aspect will be monitored closely..
..Areas outside of the Winter Weather Advisory will see mostly rain with a brief period of ice at the start of the event..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor for ice accretion reports any reports of significant icing and travel issues on area roadways and any icing damage from this event. This will likely be the only coordination message on this storm event unless a significant update to the situation occurs and time allows for an update.
