Storm Coordination Message #1 – Wednesday 12/11/24 Damaging Wind & Heavy Rainfall Potential

..After light snow and icing moves out of Northern Massachusetts late tonight, a more powerful storm will impact the region with beneficial soaking rainfall of 2-3″ with isolated higher amounts but also the potential for damaging winds in much of Eastern New England and even the potential for isolated strong to severe thunderstorms that could bring strong to damaging winds down to the surface on Wednesday..
..A High Wind Watch is now in effect from Wednesday Afternoon through late Wednesday Night for Eastern Essex, Plymouth, Bristol, Barnstable, Dukes, Nantucket Counties of Massachusetts, Newport and Washington Counties of Rhode Island including Block Island for sustained winds of 20-35 MPH with gusts of 60 MPH with isolated higher gusts possible. These winds could cause isolated to scattered pockets of tree and wire damage and power outages. Areas closest to the High Wind Watch area may need a wind advisory in future updates..
..The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed Connecticut, Rhode Island, South-Central and Southeast Massachusetts in a marginal risk for severe weather Wednesday Afternoon and Evening for potential isolated severe thunderstorms with a damaging wind threat..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation is likely with Amateur Radio Call-Up Nets possible for wind damage reports, rain gauge reports, any flooding reports and measured wind gusts 40 MPH or Greater on Wednesaday.
