Storm Coordination Message #2 – Saturday 1/17/26 Snowfall – Western MA/N CT & Sunday PM/Evening 1/18/26 Snowfall Potential Eastern Mass/RI
Hello to all…
..Ongoing Storm Saturday has brought 2-5″ of snow across Berkshire, Franklin and Western Hampshire Counties of Massachusetts with the highest amounts in Berkshire and Franklin Counties so far. Other parts of the Winter Weather Advisory area have received 1-2″ of snow with isolated higher amounts. A coating to around 1.5″ of snow has fallen in Northern Connecticut..
..After a lull, another round of snow has started which will be briefly heavy at times and will last through mid-late Saturday PM in and near the Winter Weather Advisory area adding to current snowfall totals. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has issued a Mesoscale discussion on this area of briefly heavy snowfall..
..A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 5 PM Saturday Afternoon for Franklin, Hampshire, Western Hampden and Northern Worcester Counties of Massachusetts for 3-5″ of snow with isolated higher amounts particularly in the Berkshires up to 6-7″ of snow. Areas closest to the Winter Weather Advisory in South-Central Massachusetts could see a coating to 2″ of snow with isolated higher amounts. The snow will result in slippery road conditions..
..Accumulating snow could affect portions of Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island Sunday Afternoon and Evening but uncertainty is higher than normal in exact locations of accumulating snow in this area and how much snow will occur so future coordination messages will detail the potential here as needed. Latest initial model guidance may be trending to heavier snowfall here and perhaps accumulating snow in western parts of Southern New England but uncertainty remains higher than normal and not all updated model guidance is in yet. The evening coordination message will provide more details on this storm..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation with Amateur Radio Nets on the 146.94-Mount Tom Repeater for snowfall reports with nets at 10 AM, 12 PM, 2 PM, 4 PM, 6 PM and 7 PM today. SKYWARN Self-Activation with Amateur Radio Call-Up nets are possible Sunday Afternoon/Evening. This will be the last message on the Saturday snowfall. An updated coordination message on the Sunday snowfall potential will be posted by 11 PM Saturday Evening..
