Storm Coordination Message #4 – Friday 1/9/15 Strong to Damaging Wind and Light Snow Potential

Hello to all..

..A High Wind Warning is now in effect for Cape Cod and the Islands from 5 AM-4 PM Friday for sustained winds of 25-35 MPH with gusts to 60-65 MPH. These winds can cause scattered pockets of tree and wire damage and power outages. A Wind Advisory is now in effect for Eastern Essex, Eastern Plymouth, Southern Bristol, Southern Plymouth Counties of Massachusetts and Washington and Newport Counties of Rhode Island for sustained winds of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 50-55 MPH from 5 AM-4 PM Friday. These winds can cause isolated to scattered pockets of tree and wire damage and power outages..
..Light Snow expected during to after the Friday Morning commute could produce a Dusting to 2 inches of snow across portions of Southern New England..

With the strong to damaging wind potential, the potential exists for a period of light to possibly even moderate snow. Snow accumulations of a coating to 2 inches with isolated 3″ amounts are possible in portions of Southern New England. This could occur during to slightly after the Friday Morning commute. A Special Weather Statement has been issued to cover this event. While a light snowfall, the timing near the morning commute and cold ground conditions could mean slow travel near and after the morning commute.

SKYWARN Self-Activation is likely Friday Morning through Friday Afternoon for the strong to damaging wind potential and light snowfall event. Ops at NWS Taunton are also possible.
