Storm/Severe Weather Coordination Message #1 – Friday 4/1/16 Severe Weather Potential and Late Weekend/Early Next Week Snow/Strong Wind Potential

Hello to all..

..Strong Thunderstorms with even the risk of a marginally severe thunderstorm possible across the Connecticut River Valley region of Western Massachusetts and Northwest Connecticut where the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed the region in a marginal risk for severe weather. Strong to damaging winds and small hail would be the main threats..
..Elsewhere, some strong winds perhaps in the 40-45 MPH range are possible in any heavy downpours across the rest of Southern New England. Winds today will not be as strong as they were on Thursday except possibly on a localized level around any strong to marginally severe thunderstorms in Western New England..
..Weather will turn colder and active with several chances for accumulating snow Sunday into early next week and the potential for strong to damaging winds on Sunday. This will be covered in future coordination messages..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor the strong to marginally severe thunderstorm potential in Western New England and any pockets of strong wind gusts across other parts of Southern New England today. This will be the only coordination message on Friday’s severe weather/storm potential unless a significant upgrade to the situation occurs. Below is the NWS Taunton Hazardous Weather Outlook and SPC Day-1 Convective Outlook..
