..Another round of light icing and wintry mix conditions for tonight through Tuesday Morning. Ice accretion should not be as significant as the Christmas storm event but a light glaze will cause slippery travel on untreated roadways..
..A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect from 700 PM Monday Evening through 10 AM Tuesday Morning for Northern Connecticut, Northwest Providence County RI, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Worcester and North-Central Middlesex Counties of Massachusetts for a light glaze of ice and up to 1″ of snowfall. The advisory is focused on the light icing/glaze conditions that could cause slippery travel..

..Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Holidays to all SKYWARN Spotters and Amateur Radio Operators..
..Light snow overnight into Christmas Eve morning caused a widespread Coating to 3″ of snow across Southern New England with the highest amounts over Southwest Massachusetts, Northern Connecticut and portions of North-Central Rhode Island. In areas where at least 1″ of snow is on the ground at 7 AM Christmas Morning, that would classify as a “White Christmas” for those areas..
..Another storm system late Friday Night into Christmas Day will result in a period of freezing rain and icing conditions in portions of Southern New England in the morning changing to rain in many locations from south to the north from mid to late morning through early Christmas Day afternoon resulting in slippery travel..
..A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect for Northern Connecticut, Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts including the metro Boston area except for Cape Cod and the Islands from 1 AM to 10 AM EST Christmas Day for trace to less than 0.10″ ice accretion. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the rest of the NWS Norton coverage area from 1 AM to 1 PM EST Christmas Day for up to and around 0.10″ of ice accretion..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor for icing reports and any significant accidents induced by the icing along with any icing damage though icing damage is not expected. ..A very light snow event overnight Thursday into Friday Morning may allow for a snow accumulation of a Coating to 2″ with the 1-2″ amounts most likely over interior locations and the higher terrain of Western and Central Massachusetts. This could cause a few slick spots on area roadways. While not a significant issue, if this snow stays on the ground and remains at a 1″ or greater level on Christmas Day at 7 AM, it would qualify as a “White Christmas” in those portions of Southern New England..
..The last White Christmas in much of the area was in 2009 where there was 1″ or more of snow on the ground in places such as Boston and Providence. In 2017, areas had snowfall on that day from a departing storm system but for many locations it was after 7 AM so by the technical definition, it was not defined as a “White Christmas” in Southern New England..
..Another storm system late Friday Night into Christmas Day could result in a period of freezing rain and icing conditions in portions of Southern New England in the morning changing to rain in many locations as the day wears on. This will bear watching for travel concerns during this period and will be detailed in future coordination messages..

..Light icing conditions could cause slippery road conditions particularly on untreated roadways overnight tonight through Wednesday Morning..
..A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect from Midnight to Noon Wednesday for Franklin, Western Hampshire, Western Hampden, Worcester, Northern and Central Middlesex Counties of Massachusetts for a coating to one-tenth inch of ice and snowfall of up to 1″ in the higher elevations of Western Massachusetts. Pockets of icing are also possible in Hartford County Connecticut through Eastern Hampden and Eastern Hampshire Counties of Massachusetts overnight tonight through early Wednesday Morning..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor for snowfall, ice accretion and change in precipitation type reports and any significant impacts on roads from icing conditions Wednesday Morning. This will be the only coordination message on this icing event unless a significant change to the situation occurs and time allows for an update. ..Accumulating snow across Northern Massachusetts along and north of Route 2 changing to a wintry mix with a wintry mix across other interior portions of Massachusetts..
..A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 7 AM Sunday Morning for Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Worcester, Northern and Central Middlesex Counties of Massachusetts for 1-3″ of snow with isolated higher amounts and the highest snowfall amounts along and north of route 2 along with a trace to one-tenth inch of ice resulting in slippery travel. Key factors for this storm will be the amount of snow versus wintry mix and how much ice accretion occurs with cold air at the surface with conditions remaining warm aloft. Trends are more towards a wintry mix which has meant lowering snow amounts slightly..

Storm Coordination Message #2 – Late Saturday Afternoon 12/11/21-Early Sunday Morning 12/12/21 Strong to Damaging Wind Potential

..A powerful cold front responsible for the major severe weather outbreak that affected parts of Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas and Illinois among other areas will sweep through Southern New England late Saturday Afternoon, Saturday Night into Sunday Morning. This front won’t bring that sort of activity to our region but it will bring the potential for strong to damaging winds along and head of the front with some winds enhanced by convective showers and any thunderstorms that can form along the front despite limited instability..
..A Wind Advisory is now in effect from 1 PM Saturday Afternoon until 5 AM Sunday Morning for the entire NWS Boston/Norton coverage area for 25-35 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH and isolated higher gusts possible in any convective showers and isolated thunderstorms. These winds could cause isolated to scattered pockets of tree and wire damage and power outages..

..A strong cold front will bring wind gusts of around 40 MPH to interior locations with wind gusts of 40-50 MPH in coastal areas and the possibility of a thunderstorm or two with an isolated strong thunderstorm or convective showers bringing stronger winds down to the surface. This event will be similar to the event we had on Monday Night of this week..
..A Wind Advisory is now in effect from 1 PM Saturday Afternoon until 5 AM Sunday Morning for Cape Cod and the Islands for 25-35 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH. This advisory could get expanded in future updates. These winds could cause isolated to scattered pockets of tree and wire damage and power outages..

..Light snow event of a coating to 2 inches is expected across much of Southern New England away from the immediate coast late Wednesday into Thursday Morning. Trends will be monitored for slightly higher amounts but that appears to be unlikely at this time. Storm Coordination Message #2 – Monday 12/6/21 Strong Winds and Isolated Strong to Severe Thunderstorm Potential

Hello to all…

..A strong frontal system will bring unseasonably mild conditions but also strong to damaging winds and even the low potential for an isolated strong to severe thunderstorm with strong to damaging winds and hail as the primary threats. Any thunderstorm threat will be contingent on whether the cold front brings convective showers and thunderstorms sufficient to bring stronger winds down to the surface. A Special Weather Statement for strong wind gusts associated with the cold front has been issued..
..A Wind Advisory remains in effect through 1 AM Tuesday for South Coastal Massachusetts and Rhode Island including Eastern Plymouth County and Cape Cod and the Islands for sustained winds of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH likely. These winds will cause isolated to scattered pockets of tree and power line damage and power outages. The extent of these winds in the advisory area and possibly areas north and west of the Wind Advisory area will hinge on ability for strong winds to reach the surface, how warm temperatures get and convective showers and any thunderstorms bringing winds to the surface..
