Storm Coordination Message #1 – Sunday Evening 12/28/25-Monday AM 12/29/25 Icing Event

Hello to all…

..Happy New Year to all Amateur Radio and non-Amateur Radio SKYWARN Spotters and many thanks to all for their support in the Friday Evening 12/26/25-Saturday Morning 12/27/25 winter storm. A snowfall map and Amateur Radio log from this winter storm appear below as links in this message..
..A storm system will bring the potential for icing in interior Southern New England particularly along and north of the Route 2 corridor and in the CT River Valley of Western Massachusetts though many interior areas will see some icing Sunday Evening into Monday Morning. If you must travel, use caution and allow plenty of extra time to reach your destination or travel before the ice arrives or after the freezing rain occurs which should occur in most if not all areas by mid-morning Monday..
..A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 PM Sunday Evening to 6 AM Monday Morning for Northern Connecticut, Franklin, Hampshire, Hampden, Worcester, Middlesex, Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk Counties of Massachusetts, Northwest Providence and Western Kent Counties of Rhode Island for a trace to 0.20″ of ice with isolated higher amounts of icing along and north of Route 2 and in the Connecticut River Valley of Western Mass with trace amounts of ice more likely at the coastline..
..The higher amounts of icing could cause isolated pockets of tree and power line damage and isolated power outages though current ice accumulations should preclude widespread icing damage. This aspect will be monitored closely..
..Areas outside of the Winter Weather Advisory will see mostly rain with a brief period of ice at the start of the event..
..As we get into Monday Night into Tuesday Morning another strong to damaging wind gust event will be possible for portions of Southern New England particularly higher terrain locations of interior Southern New England and at coastal locations..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor for ice accretion reports any reports of significant icing and travel issues on area roadways and any icing damage from this event. For areas that receive mostly rain, will also monitor for rain gauge totals of 1″ or more. This will likely be the only coordination message on this storm event unless a significant update to the situation occurs and time allows for an update. Below is the NWS Boston/Norton Winter Weather Advisory Statement, Area Forecast Discussion and Enhanced Hazardous Weather Outlook..
