Wind/Severe Weather Coordination Message #2 – Wednesday Night 11/5/25-Thursday AM 11/6/25 – Strong to Damaging Wind Potential

Hello to all…

..Another Round of strong to damaging winds likely late Wednesday Night through the overnight into Thursday Morning and perhaps isolated strong to severe thunderstorms with that potential anywhere in Southern New England though western areas may be a bit more favored..
..A High Wind Warning is in effect from 7 PM Wednesday Evening through 8 AM Thursday Morning for Western Franklin, Western Hampshire, Western Hampshire Counties of Massachusetts, Cape Cod and the Islands including Block Island, RI for sustained winds of 25-35 MPH with gusts to 60 MPH and isolated higher gusts to 65 MPH. A Wind Advisory is now in effect for the remainder of the NWS Norton MA Coverage Area from 10 PM Wednesday Evening through 8 AM Thursday Morning for sustained winds of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 55 MPH and isolated higher gusts to 60 MPH. For this particular Wind Advisory, there is little difference in conditions between the Wind Advisory conditions and the High Wind Warning area. These winds will result in scattered pockets of tree and wire damage and power outages..
..The Storm Prediction Center has expanded the marginal risk for severe thunderstorms with strong to damaging winds and hail as the primary risks with heavy rainfall leading to urban and poor drainage flooding and frequent lightning as secondary risks. It is noted that even convective showers without lightning could bring strong to damaging winds down to the surface followed by the strong damaging winds behind any showers and thunderstorms.
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor the damaging wind potential late Wednesday Night through Thursday Morning for reports of measured wind gusts 40 MPH or greater and any wind damage reports along with hail in any thunderstorms/convective showers. Pictures and videos of storm damage and rain related flooding can be sent as a reply to this message via the WX1BOX Facebook/X/Bluesky feeds or to the email address pics@nsradio.org with credit given to the spotter unless otherwise indicated..
..The more complete summary on the damaging wind events from Monday Night and Tuesday will be posted in a post storm/wind coordination message later this week..

The headlines depict the current thinking on the potential for convective showers and even isolated strong to severe thunderstorms that could bring strong to damaging winds down to the surface along with the strong to damaging winds for several hours post the frontal passage. Key factors include:

1.) If wind shear profiles and strong jet dynamics overcome limited to instability or slightly more instability develops to allow convective showers and even thunderstorms to allow for strong to damaging winds to occur in precipitation.
2.) More recent models backed off slightly on the strong to damaging winds though still sufficient to produce the conditions in the headlines. If the earlier model runs are correct with slightly stronger winds, it could mean a greater risk for a bit stronger wind gusts and wind damage in the region.

SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor the damaging wind potential late Wednesday Night through Thursday Morning for reports of measured wind gusts 40 MPH or greater and any wind damage reports along with hail in any thunderstorms/convective showers. Pictures and videos of storm damage and rain related flooding can be sent as a reply to this message via the WX1BOX Facebook/X/Bluesky feeds or to the email address pics@nsradio.org with credit given to the spotter unless otherwise indicated. This will be the last coordination message before we shift into operations mode. The more complete summary on the damaging wind events from Monday Night and Tuesday will be posted in a post storm/wind coordination message later this week.
