Post Severe Weather Coordination Message #1 – Saturday 8/8/26 Severe Weather Event

Hello to all…

..Significant severe weather impacted portions of Southwest and South-Central Massachusetts late Saturday Afternoon/Early Evening with the Westfield/Springfield Metro area being particularly hard hit including direct structural damage to a couple of buildings. Amateur Radio and non-Amateur Radio SKYWARN Spotters were instrumental in providing reports in near real-time during this severe weather event including near real-time pictures and videos of storm damage. This event occurring less than 24 hours after a severe weather event that affected Central Connecticut and to a lesser extend South-Central Massachusetts..

..For the Saturday 8/8/26 and Friday evening 8/7/26 severe weather events, pictures and videos of wind damage, hail, flooding etc. can be sent as a reply to this email, via our Facebook/X/Bluesky feeds or the email address pics@nsradio.org with credit given to the spotter unless otherwise indicated. An updated post severe weather coordination message will be posted either by Sunday Evening or Monday Morning potentially with a WX1BOX Facebook Photo Album from the Saturday 8/8/26 severe weather event and possibly the Friday Evening 8/7/26 severe weather event. Severe Weather Coordination Message #1 – Saturday PM & Evening 8/8/26 Severe Weather Potential

Hello to all…

..Friday Evening severe weather impacted portions of Central Connecticut and South-Central Massachusetts with the most significant wind damage in portions of Hartford County CT in the Bristol, Southington, Burlington, West Hartford, Hartford, Windsor CT area. This severe weather was expected to be southwest of our coverage area but advanced into Central Connecticut to South-Central Massachusetts. The WX1BOX Report log on this event is provided in this coordination message. Appreciation is extended to Amateur Radio and non-Amateur Radio SKYWARN Spotters who reacted on short notice providing reports in near real-time in this situation..

..For Saturday, another impulse in the atmosphere is expected to bring another round of isolated to scattered strong to severe thunderstorms across much of interior Southern New England during the mid to late afternoon to evening hours. Strong to damaging winds, hail, frequent lightning and urban and poor drainage to flash flooding are the main threats. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed much of Southern New England in a marginal risk for severe weather with a slight risk for severe weather in Southeast Massachusetts and Western Connecticut..

..SKYWARN Self-Activation with Amateur Radio Call-Up Nets if warnings are issued will monitor the severe weather potential for mid to late Saturday Afternoon into Saturday Evening. Pictures and videos of wind damage, hail, flooding etc. can be sent as a reply to this email, via our Facebook/X/Bluesky feeds or the email address pics@nsradio.org with credit given to the spotter unless otherwise indicated. Severe Weather Coordination Message #1 – Monday 8/3/26 Severe Weather/Flash Flood Potential

..A round of showers and thunderstorms will affect the region overnight into Monday Morning and could cause flooding of urban and poor drainage areas. The threat for severe weather potential with that activity is low. In addition, some strong wind gusts to 40 MPH particularly in Southeast Coastal New England outside of any thunderstorms may cause isolated pockets of tree, wire damage and isolated power outages..

..A cold front will then approach Southern New England Monday Afternoon and Evening setting the stage for the potential of isolated to scattered strong to severe thunderstorms Monday Afternoon and Evening from 2-8 PM in Western, Central and interior Northeast Massachusetts, Connecticut and Northwest RI essentially from the I-95 corridor north and west. Strong to damaging winds, hail, frequent lightning and heavy downpours leading to urban and poor drainage flooding to flash flooding are the main threats..

..The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has a Marginal risk for severe weather Monday Afternoon and Evening in Western, Central and interior Northeast Massachusetts, Connecticut and Northwest RI essentially from the I-95 corridor north and west. Severe weather potential is contingent on enough clearing for sufficient heating and destabilization after Sunday Night/Monday Morning activity and/or the ability of sufficiently strong wind shear to compensate for potentially limited instability..
