..SKYWARN Self-Activation with Amateur Radio Call-Up Nets are likely for this multi-faceted coastal storm. Pictures and videos of storm damage and flooding can be sent as a reply to this message, via out WX1BOX Facebook and Twitter social media feeds or to the email address pics@nsradio.org with credit given to the spotter unless otherwise indicated..

A coastal storm will bring a multi-faceted set of hazards to the region. The headlines depict the current thinking. Key factors include:

1.) Rain-snow line and level of elevation for heaviest snow in the Winter Storm Warning area along with any extent of wet snow damage that could be enhanced by strong to damaging winds in these areas. Same is true in the Winter Weather Advisory area.
2.) Extent of flooding from heavy rainfall and how widespread the heaviest rainfall is across lower elevations of Southern New England
3.) How widespread strong to damaging winds are in the High Wind Warning and Wind Advisory areas.
4.) Extent of coastal flooding that will depend on the strong winds and how close those winds are to the high tide cycles
5.) Extent of rainfall and river flooding as well as any flooding of urban and poor drainage areas if heavy rain falls over a short enough period of time

SKYWARN Self-Activation with Amateur Radio Call-Up Nets are likely for this multi-faceted coastal storm. Pictures and videos of storm damage and flooding can be sent as a reply to this message, via out WX1BOX Facebook and Twitter social media feeds or to the email address pics@nsradio.org with credit given to the spotter unless otherwise indicated. Another coordination message will be posted by 11 PM Wednesday Evening. Storm Coordination Message #2 – Saturday 3/23/24-Early Sunday AM 3/24/24 – Wintry Mix/Heavy Rainfall/Strong Wind Mulit-Hazard Storm

Hello to all…

..Storm system is bringing a wintry mix of snow/sleet/freezing rain to Western and Central Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut a bit further south and east than expected but is still expected to change to rain heavy at times in these areas with rain heavy at times across Connecticut, Rhode Island, South Central and Eastern Massachusetts which could lead to a renewed risk of flooding of small rivers, streams, urban and poor drainage areas early Saturday Morning through Sunday Morning..
..A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 12 PM Saturday for Hartford County CT, Franklin, Hampshire, Hampden, Northern Worcester and Northern Middlesex Counties of Massachusetts and expanded to include Tolland, Windham Counties of Connecticut and Southern Worcester County Massachusetts for a trace to 0.25″ of ice with the highest icing in the east slopes of the Berkshires and Worcester Hills. Northeast Massachusetts could see light icing this morning with trace amounts changing to rain later this morning. The icing could cause slippery travel conditions and where amounts of icing reach 0.25″, isolated pockets of tree and wire damage and power outages from icing..
..A Flood Watch remains in effect from Saturday Morning to Sunday Morning for Connecticut, Rhode Island, Hampden, Southern Worcester, Essex, Central and Southeast Middlesex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Bristol, Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket Counties of Massachusetts for excessive rainfall of 2-3″ with higher amounts possible having the potential to cause flooding of small rivers, streams, urban and poor drainage areas..
..A Wind Advisory is now in effect from 5 PM to 11 PM Saturday Afternoon and Evening for Eastern Kent, Bristol, Washington, Newport Counties of Rhode Island including Block Island and Southeast Massachusetts including Bristol, Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket Counties of Massachusetts for sustained winds of 20-30 MPH with gusts up to 50 MPH. Areas outside of the Wind Advisory in East Coastal Massachusetts could see wind gusts to 40 MPH. These winds will cause isolated to scattered pockets of tree and wire damage and power outages..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation with ad-hoc as needed Amateur Radio Call-Up Nets will monitor for snowfall, ice accretion, rain gauge, flooding, measured wind gusts 40 MPH or greater and any flood or wind damage reports from this storm system. Pictures of the wintry mix, flooding, wind damage etc. can be sent as a reply to this message, via our WX1BOX Facebook and Twitter feeds or to the email address pics@nsradio.org with credit given to the spotter unless otherwise indicated..

A storm system is bringing a wintry mix changing to rain in Western, Central Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut with heavy rain and potential flooding across Connecticut, Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts and the potential for strong to damaging winds in Southeast Massachusetts and Southeast/South-Central Rhode Island. The headlines depict the current thinking. Key factors include:

1.) Monitoring the wintry mix changeover to rain and timing for any increase or decrease in snow/ice accumulations. Currently, the wintry mix has been able to take a hold a bit further south and east across Northern Connecticut into central and even parts of Northeast Mass with slightly higher icing possible especially in the higher elevations of Western and Central Massachusetts but a changeover to rain is still expected by around 12 PM today.
2.) Axis of heavy rainfall and where isolated or an axis of highest amounts setup in the flood watch area. This is currently expected across Connecticut, Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts and will be closely monitored.
3.) How the heavy rainfall and the amount that falls in a given amount of time affects rivers, streams, urban and poor drainage areas.
4.) A period of strong to damaging winds with the heaviest rainfall later this Saturday afternoon and evening in South-Central Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts could cause isolated to scattered pockets of wind damage in this area.

SKYWARN Self-Activation with ad-hoc as needed Amateur Radio Call-Up Nets will monitor for snowfall, ice accretion, rain gauge, flooding and any damage reports from this storm system. Storm Coordination Message #2 – Saturday Night 3/9/24 Through Sunday AM 3/10/24 Multi-Storm Hazards

Hello to all…

..Strong storm system will bring a period of heavy rain and urban, poor drainage, river and stream flooding to much of Southern New England with rainfall amounts of around 1-2″, widespread pockets of minor to possibly moderate coastal flooding at the time of high tide depending on the timing of strong winds to overlap with the Sunday Morning high tide and strong to damaging winds to East Coastal Massachusetts and Southeast New England. Higher elevation snow across Northern Massachusetts and the East slopes of the Berkshires is expected to be below Winter Weather Advisory levels with a coating to 2″ of snow but this will be monitored..
..A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 6 AM Sunday Morning through 2 PM Sunday Afternoon for Southern Bristol, Southern Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes, Nantucket Counties of Massachusetts, Southeast Providence, Eastern Kent, Bristol, Washington and Newport Counties of Rhode Island for minor coastal flooding at the time of high tide and the potential for a few road closures due to coastal flooding..
..A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for Eastern Essex, Suffolk, Eastern Norfolk, and Eastern Plymouth Counties of Massachusetts from 9 AM-4 PM Sunday for minor coastal flooding of shore roads at the time of high tide with a few road closures possible..
..A Wind Advisory is in effect from from 12 AM to 10 AM Sunday and is now in effect for Southeast Providence, Kent, Washington, Newport Counties of Rhode Island including Block Island Rhode Island, Essex, Southeast Middlesex,Suffolk, Eastern Norfolk, Bristol, Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket Counties of Massachusetts for sustained winds 25-35 MPH with gusts up to 55 MPH and isolated higher gusts possible. These winds will likely cause isolated to scattered pockets of tree and wire damage and power outages..
..A Flood Watch is now in effect for the entire NWS Norton Coverage Area except for Cape Cod and the Islands due to 1-2″ of rainfall in a relatively short period of time causing an increased risk for urban and poor drainage flooding than expected this morning in addition to keeping rivers where river flood warnings are in effect in flood for a longer period of time with some expansion to small rivers and streams possible..
.. SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor for Rain Gauge reports 1″ or more, any flooding from heavy rainfall, any snowfall measurements in the Northwest Massachusetts higher elevations, coastal flooding and wind damage potential overnight into Sunday Morning. Pictures and videos of storm damage and flooding can be sent as a reply to this email, via the WX1BOX Facebook and Twitter feeds or via the email address pics@nsradio.org with credit given to the spotter unless otherwise indicated. This will be the last coordination message as we shift into operations mode. Storm Coordination Message #1 – Saturday Night 3/9/24 Through Sunday Morning 3/10/24 Storm Hazards

Hello to all…

..Strong storm system will bring a period of heavy rain to much of Southern New England with rainfall amounts of around 1-2″, minor to possibly moderate coastal flooding at the time of high tide depending on the timing of strong winds to overlap with the Sunday Morning high tide and strong to damaging winds in parts of Southeast coastal New England. There is also the potential for higher elevation snow across Northern Massachusetts and the East slopes of the Berkshires. At this time, its expected to be below Winter Weather Advisory levels with a coating to 2″ of snow but this will be monitored..
..A Coastal Flood Watch is in effect from Sunday Morning through Sunday Afternoon for Southern Bristol, Southern Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes, Nantucket Counties of Massachusetts, Southeast Providence, Eastern Kent, Bristol, Washington and Newport Counties of Rhode Island for minor to moderate coastal flooding at the time of high tide and the potential for road closures due to coastal flooding..
..A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for Eastern Essex, Suffolk, Eastern Norfolk, and Eastern Plymouth Counties of Massachusetts from 6 AM-3 PM Sunday for minor coastal flooding of shore roads at the time of high tide with a few road closures possible..
..A Wind Advisory is in effect from from 12 AM to 10 PM Sunday for Barnstable and Nantucket Counties of Massachusetts for sustained winds 25-35 MPH with gusts up to 50 MPH and isolated higher gusts possible. These winds will likely cause isolated to scattered pockets of tree and wire damage and power outages. Areas outside of the wind advisory along East Coastal and Southeast coastal Massachusetts and Rhode Island could see wind gusts of 40-45 MPH..
..The rainfall is expected to keep rivers where river flood warnings are in effect in flood for a longer period of time but any additional flooding beyond the rivers already impacted is low at this time except for brief urban and poor drainage flooding in typical locations in areas of heaviest rainfall..
