Storm Coordination Message #1 – Monday Evening 3/18/13-Tuesday Evening 3/19/13 Winter Storm Event

Hello to all..

..Winter is not yet finished with Southern New England. Another Winter Storm will affect portions of Southern New England, particularly interior locations Monday Night into Tuesday Night. The Tuesday Morning commute is likely to be significantly impacted..
..A Winter Storm Watch is now in effect from Monday Evening through Tuesday Afternoon for Southern New Hampshire, Franklin, Northern Worcester and Northern Middlesex Counties of Massachusetts for the potential of 10-14 inches of snow and a trace of ice..
..A Winter Storm Watch is now in effect from Monday Evening through Tuesday Afternoon for Western Essex, Central and Southeast Middlesex, Southern Worcester, Hampden and Hampshire Counties of Massachusetts for the potential of 5-9 inches of snow and a trace of ice..
..A Winter Storm Watch is now in effect from Monday Evening through Tuesday Afternoon for Northern Connecticut, Northwest Providence County Rhode Island, Eastern Essex, Suffolk and Western Norfolk counties of Massachusetts for the potential of 4-7 inches of snow and a trace of ice..
..Areas outside of the Winter Storm Watch area will likely get 1-3 inches of snow before a changeover to rain.
..Strong winds along South Coastal Massachusetts and Cape Cod and the Islands possibly extending into East Coastal Massachusetts may prompt Wind Advisories in this area for Tuesday. Astronomical tides will be low so just minor coastal flooding/splashover particularly in areas exposed by prior storms..
..SKYWARN Activation with Ops at NWS Taunton are likely Tuesday Morning through early evening..

Models are in agreement on another winter storm impacting the region Monday Night into Tuesday Night. The headlines reflect the current thinking. Key questions for this storm system will be as follows:

1.) Axis of heaviest preciptiation and what areas are affected by the heaviest preciptiation which could affect snowfall amounts.
2.) Rain/snow line progression and how far north it gets and the affect on snowfall amounts.
3.) Extent of potential wind advisory conditions at the coast.

SKYWARN Activation with Ops at NWS Taunton are likely starting Tuesday Morning lasting through early Tuesday evening. Another coordination message will be sent by 830 AM Monday Morning. Below is the NWS Taunton Winter Storm Watch Statement and Hazardous Weather Outlook:
