..A Flood Watch is now in effect for Northern Connecticut, Rhode Island, Southern Worcester County Massachusetts and all of Eastern Massachusetts except for Cape Cod and he Islands for Heavy rainfall of 2-2.5″ with isolated higher amounts that can result in urban and poor drainage flooding across portions of Southern New England potentially impacting the evening commute..
..Minor coastal flooding and beach erosion is possible at the time of high tide depending on the time of peak winds in East Coastal Massachusetts..
..SKYWARN Activation with Ops at NWS Taunton are likely Tuesday. Exact timeframe will be better defined in future coordination messages..

A significant coastal storm will impact portions of Southern New England Tuesday Morning through Tuesday Evening with the peak intensity of activity in the late morning through early evening hours. The headlines depict the current weather hazards for the region. The following are items that will be considered for future forecasts for this significant coastal storm:

1.) The track of the storm. The storm track has shifted slightly east which means the possibility for significant heavy wet snow accumulation in the northern parts of the NWS Taunton Coverage area and Cheshire County New Hampshire in the NWS Gray Maine coverage area. This is the lowest confidence portion of the forecast as small deviations in storm track and temperature profile could be the difference between significant heavy wet snow and a cold rain.

2.) The level of winds expected across portions of Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. There will be very strong winds aloft. The amount of winds experienced at the surface will depend on the ability of the winds to mix down to the surface.

3.) Heavy rainfall in the Flood Watch area and how much of this falls in what time period will determine the extent of any urban and poor drainage flooding.

SKYWARN Activation with Ops at NWS Taunton are likely Tuesday. Exact timeframe will be better defined in future coordination messages. Another coordination message will be issued by 1130 PM this evening.
