Storm Coordination Message #3 – Saturday Night 2/17/18-Sunday Morning 2/18/18 Winter Storm Potential

Hello to all…

..Quick Hitting Winter Storm likely to bring a plowable snowfall to much of Southern New England. Precipitation type issue concerns for South Coastal Massachusetts. South Coastal Rhode Island and Cape Cod and still some question of heavier snowfall in areas just north of the Mass Pike with the latest round of model updates..
..A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect from 7 PM Saturday Evening to 7 AM Sunday Morning for Northern Connecticut, Rhode Island, and all of Norfolk, Bristol and Plymouth Counties of Massachusetts for 5-8″ of snow with a period of 1-2″ per hour snowfall during the overnight period. There is some question of snow mixing with rain along the immediate south coast of Massachusetts/Rhode Island which could hold snow amounts lower. This will bear watching. Near this transition zone, the snow will heavy and wet and could result in isolated tree and wire damage and isolated power outages..
..A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect from 7 PM Saturday Evening to 7 AM Sunday Morning for Franklin, Hampshire, Hampden, Northern Worcester, Middlesex and Suffolk Counties of Massachusetts for 3-5″ of snow..
..A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect from 7 PM Saturday Evening to 7 AM Sunday Morning for Marthas Vineyard for 3-6″ of snow..
..A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for Barnstable County for Saturday Evening into Sunday Morning. In this area there is higher uncertainty of reaching 6″ or more of snow but it is still possible particularly around the Cape Cod Canal and the western part of the county. Other parts of the county could receive less snow of 1-3″. Nantucket will receive 1-3″ of snow with rain holding down amounts in that area..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor for snowfall reports and wet snow damage reports. Another coordination message will be posted by 8 PM Saturday Evening. Below is the NWS Taunton Winter Storm Warning/Winter Weather Advisory Statement, Hazardous Weather Outlook, Enhanced Hazardous Weather Outlook, Snowfall Maps and Facebook Storm Briefing Post..
