Storm Coordination Message #1 – Late Sunday Night 2/22/26-Early Tuesday AM 2/24/26 Potential Major Winter Storm

Hello to all…

..Potential exists for Major Winter Storm across portions of Southern New England late Sunday Night to early Tuesday Morning. How widespread and exact snowfall amounts will be determined in future updates as we are still approximately 3 days away from the storm event and changes on the current potential significant scenario can still occur. Given this has the potential to be a powerful storm and if the track is close enough to the region, it could be high end impact, all are advised to closely monitor future updates..
..A Winter Storm Watch is now in effect from late Sunday Night through Monday Evening for South Coastal Massachusetts and Rhode Island including Cape Cod and the Islands for 6″ or more of snow. This watch area could expand in future updates if current trends continue..
..A High Wind Watch is now in effect from Monday Morning to Monday Evening for Cape Cod and the Islands for sustained winds of 25-35 MPH with gusts to 60 MPH and isolated higher wind gusts. This watch area could expand in future updates if current trends continue..
..A Coastal Flood Watch is now in effect from Late Sunday Night to Tuesday Morning for East Coastal Massachusetts, Cape Cod and the Islands for minor to moderate coastal flooding at the time of high tides during this timeframe resulting in potential shore road closures..
..ARES/RACES Groups should closely monitor the progress of this system particularly in Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island but all areas should monitor..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation with Amateur Radio Call-Up Nets likely for this potentially major multi-hazard winter storm. Amateur Radio Nets are likely and a schedule is listed below. Pictures/videos of the storm can be sent as a reply to this message via our WX1BOX Facebook/X/Bluesky feeds or to the email address pics@nsradio.org with credit given to the spotter unless otherwise indicated..

A coastal storm will potentially take aim on Southern New England late Sunday Night into early Tuesday Morning. The headlines depict the current thinking. Key factors include:

1.) Storm track trends have continue to come in close enough to Southern New England for a significant winter storm. There is still some time for deviations a bit offshore but if current trends hold or stay the same, the window for lesser impacts, particularly for Eastern New England, will close and a potentially significant storm could occur.
2.) Watch areas could expand in future updates as stated in headlines.
3.) Additional specifics on snow totals, strong to damaging wind and coastal flood impacts will be better known as we get into Saturday.

SKYWARN Self-Activation with Amateur Radio Call-Up Nets likely for this potentially major multi-hazard winter storm. ARES/RACES Groups should closely monitor the progress of this system particularly in Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island but all areas should monitor. Amateur Radio Nets are likely and a schedule is listed below.
