Storm Coordination Message #1 – Tuesday PM 3/3/26-Wednesday AM 3/4/26 – Wintry Mix Potential

Hello to all…

..Wintry Mix will result in slippery travel conditions in portions of interior Southern New England..
..A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 12 PM Tuesday Afternoon through 7 AM Wednesday Morning for Northern Connecticut, Northwest Providence County RI, Franklin, Hampshire, Hampden, Worcester, Middlesex and Essex Counties of Massachusetts for a coating to 2″ of snow and ice accretion up to 0.10″ of ice causing slippery travel conditions. Areas near and south of the advisory area may see a brief period of wintry mix and slippery travel before changing to rain with less overall impact..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor for snow and ice accumulations and precipitation type changeover reports in the advisory area. Pictures/videos of the storm can be sent as a reply to this message via our WX1BOX Facebook/X/Bluesky feeds or to the email address pics@nsradio.org with credit given to the spotter unless otherwise indicated. This will likely be the only coordination message on this wintry mix event unless a significant change to the situation occurs and time allows for an update. Post Blizzard Coordination Message #2 – Sunday Evening 2/22/26-Early Tuesday AM 2/24/26

Hello to all…

..Historic and destructive blizzard caused likely record breaking snowfall in Rhode Island and high impact heavy snowfall in Southeast Massachusetts with significant snowfall across the entire NWS Norton coverage area. The blizzard brought significant hurricane force wind gusts to Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts with strong wind gusts inland across the region. At the height of the storm, ~300K were without power in Massachusetts and ~50K without power in Rhode Island and there were numerous reports across city street and even various highways of stuck cars, stuck plows and stuck first responders trying to assist during the peak of the blizzard conditions..
..Amateur Radio & non-Amateur Radio SKYWARN Spotters provided tremendous support during this blizzard and we appreciate everyone who provided reports during this blizzard. With power largely restored to areas hard hit by the storm and folks are able to get out particularly in the hardest hit areas of Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts, pictures and video of storm damage will be helpful for any aid for hardest hit communities and for the historical record of this blizzard. They can be sent as a reply to this message, via our WX1BOX Facebook and X feeds and via the email address pics@nsradio.org with credit given to the spotter unless otherwise indicated..
..We are still compiling a large backlog of damage reports from the 2026 Blizzard. We have update the Amateur Radio Log with what additional information we were able to review over the last few days and updated our report log file. We have also added a WX1BOX Facebook Photo Album, ARRL National Web Story initial article and the NWS Norton review of blizzard condition criteria being met at the various locations..
..A third and final post blizzard coordination message may be sent out with additional info on damage reports and potentially any added photos for the WX1BOX Facebook Photo Album by the end of this week.
