Storm Coordination Message #1 – Snowfall Potential in Northwest Mass Higher Terrain Sunday Morning 11/20/16 and Strong Wind Potential Sunday Evening to Monday Morning 11/21/16

Hello to all…

..Accumulating snow likely in the higher terrain of Northwest Massachusetts overnight into Sunday Morning as cold air sweeps into the region with winds increasing and becoming strong Sunday Evening into Monday along South Coastal Massachusetts and Rhode Island with winds also potentially becoming strong in other parts of Southern New England..
..A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Western Franklin and Western Hampshire Counties from 2-10 AM Sunday for 2-4″ of heavy wet snow across higher terrain locations. In Western Hampden County, 1-3″ of snow in higher terrain locations is likely. If snow lingers longer or is heavy enough despite the short timing window, higher snowfall amounts in the higher terrain could occur and amounts 4″ or more could result in isolated to scattered pockets of tree and wire damage and isolated power outages..
..A Wind Advisory is in effect for South Coastal Massachusetts and Rhode Island including the Cape and Islands from 6 PM Sunday Evening through 8 AM Monday for sustained winds of 15-20 MPH with gusts up to 50 MPH. These winds could cause isolated pockets of tree and wire damage and isolated power outages..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will closely monitor for snowfall reports Sunday Morning and strong to damaging winds Sunday Night into Monday Morning. Another coordination message will be posted Sunday morning if time allow or Sunday Afternoon into early Evening if time allows for the strong wind potential. Below is the NWS Taunton Winter weather Advisory, Wind Advisory Statement and Hazardous Weather Outlook..

Storm Coordination Message #1 – Weak Coastal Storm and Minor Coastal Flooding Potential

Hello to all…

..A weak coastal storm combined with the supermoon tide will bring minor coastal flooding at the time of high tide to East Coastal Massachusetts for the midday Tuesday high tide with more spotty coastal flooding in South Coastal Massachusetts and Rhode Island for the 8 AM Tuesday high tide. The coastal flooding will be due to the high tide inundating low lying areas with only modest wave action. This weak coastal storm will bring some beneficial rainfall of around 0.50″ with isolated higher amounts of around 1″ and possibly heavier downpours and some wind gusts below Wind Advisory criteria but possibly reaching 30-40 MPH in gusts along the coast..
..A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for Eastern Essex, Suffolk, Eastern Norfolk, Eastern Plymouth Counties of Massachusetts as well as Cape Cod and the Islands from 1000 AM to 2 PM Saturday for widespread minor coastal flooding at the time of high tide. A Coastal Flood Statement has been issued for pockets of minor coastal flooding along South Coastal Massachusetts and Rhode Island..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will be monitoring for any coastal flood reports in East Coastal Massachusetts as well as South Coastal Massachusetts and Rhode Island which are likely to reach SKYWARN Reporting thresholds. Any coastal flood photos would be greatly appreciated and can be sent via our WX1BOX Facebook and Twitter feeds, as a reply to this coordination message or to the email address pics@nsradio.org. SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor for any flooding issues from heavy rainfall or any wind issues at the coast as well but this is likely to stay below reportable thresholds. This will be the only coordination message for this storm event unless time allows and a significant upgrade to the situation occurs.
