Special Announcement: Public Information Statement – NWS Taunton Forecast Offices Relocating to Norton Massachusetts

Hello to all…

The National Weather Service Forecast Offices in Taunton Massachusetts will be relocating to Norton Massachusetts on or about February 27th, 2018. A Public Information Statement has been issued sharing some of the details of the NWS Taunton office move and that statement can be seen at the following link:

From a WX1BOX Amateur Radio Station perspective, when the office relocation is completed, we will be receiving new antennas when the office move takes place and we may also receive new Amateur Radio equipment. Currently, the antenna arrangement at the NWS Taunton office is at a reduced capacity as the tower for the Amateur Radio antennas is no longer at the current site. The coverage we have currently is somewhat reduced but we are still able to maintain contact with most of the Amateur Radio SKYWARN repeaters that we have been able to reach previously. When the relocation is completed, we will likely do a complete radio communications test from the new facility to test out coverage of all the Amateur Radio gear at the new location and make any necessary adjustments to have similar if not better coverage than the old location. From an Amateur Radio HF perspective, we expect improvements there as we should be able to improve the arrangement of the Dipole antenna along with the fact it will be a new antenna and we will likely maintain the Vertical antenna that we had at our previous location. This HF vertical was taken down in October to be relocated and was not available for SKYWARN Recognition Day (SRD) 2017 activities.

We will update the relocation activities and send out the updated Public Information Statement as it becomes available. We appreciate everyone’s support of the NWS Taunton SKYWARN program!

Respectfully Submitted,
