Severe Weather Coordination Message #1 – Wednesday 8/2/17 Severe Weather Potential
Hello to all…
..Isolated to scattered strong to severe thunderstorms likely today across much of Southern New England particularly along and north and west of the Boston to Providence corridor. Strong to damaging winds, hail, frequent lightning and torrential rainfall with the potential of urban and poor drainage flooding to flash flooding are the main threats. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed much of Southern New England in a marginal risk for severe weather with the timeframe between 12-8 PM EDT..
..SKYWARN Activation with Ops at NWS Taunton will commence by 1 PM EDT Wednesday..
Heating and destabilization will occur across Southern New England today and an impulse in the atmosphere that will providing cooling temperatures aloft. Wind shear values are weak which will likely mitigate a more significant event but the level of moisture in the atmosphere, some cooling aloft and an impulse in the atmosphere will set the stage for isolated to scattered strong to severe thunderstorms across much of Southern New England. The headlines depict the severe weather potential.
SKYWARN Activation with Ops at NWS Taunton will commence by 1 PM EDT Wednesday. This will be the only coordination message as we shift into operations mode. Below is the NWS Taunton Special Weather Statement, Hazardous Weather Outlook, Experimental Enhanced Hazardous Weather Outlook and SPC Day-1 Convective Outlook:
