..Multi-Hazard long duration coastal storm on track to impact Southern New England Friday through Sunday with the highest impacts in Eastern & South-Central Massachusetts, Rhode Island & Eastern Connecticut. The storm will bring the potential for strong to damaging winds, minor to moderate coastal flooding during multiple high tide cycles and heavy rainfall with potential for urban and poor drainage flooding as the main threats..
..A High Wind Warning is now in effect from 8 AM Friday Morning through 2 AM Sunday Morning for Eastern Essex, Suffolk, Eastern Norfolk, Eastern Plymouth, Southern Bristol, Southern Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes, Nantucket counties of Massachusetts, Bristol, Newport and Washington Counties of Rhode Island including Block Island for sustained winds of 25-35 MPH with gusts to 60 MPH and isolated higher wind gusts possible anywhere in the warning area with the greatest risk along the south coast of Massachusetts/Rhode Island, Cape Cod and the Islands. These winds will cause scattered pockets of tree and wire damage and power outages..
..A High Wind Warning is now in effect from 8 AM Friday Morning through 2 AM Sunday Morning for Southeast Providence, and Kent Counties Rhode Island for sustained winds of 25-35 MPH with gusts to 60 MPH and isolated higher wind gusts possible. These winds will cause scattered pockets of tree and wire damage and power outages..
..A Wind Advisory is now in effect from 8 AM Friday Morning through 2 AM Sunday Morning for Central Middlesex, Western Essex, Southern Worcester, Southeast Middlesex, Western Norfolk, Northern Bristol, Western Plymouth Counties and Northwest Providence County Rhode Island for sustained winds of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH and isolated higher wind gusts possible. These winds will cause isolated to scattered pockets of tree and wire damage and power outages..

..A Coastal Flood Watch is now in effect from Friday Afternoon through Sunday Evening for Eastern Essex, Suffolk, Eastern Norfolk, Eastern Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket Counties of Massachusetts for widespread minor to pockets of moderate coastal flooding of shore roads at the time of high tide over the Friday Afternoon through Sunday Evening high tide cycles..
..A High Surf Advisory is now in effect from 5 AM Friday to 8 PM Sunday for Eastern Essex, Suffolk, Eastern Norfolk, Eastern Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket Counties of Massachusetts for large breaking waves of 7 to 13 feet and dangerous rip currents..
..Heavy rainfall of 3-6″ with isolated higher amounts are possible in portions of Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island with 1-3″ of rain and isolated higher amounts possible elsewhere in the region. Presuming the rain falls over the extended duration, the flood potential is minimal but will monitor for heavier rainfall rate bands in a shorter period of time or overall higher rainfall amounts which could lead to potential flooding of urban and poor drainage areas if higher rate heavier bands or general higher rainfall occurs in vulnerable areas..

The stage is set for a long-duration strong nor’easter, hybrid coastal storm to impact the region Friday through Sunday. The headlines depict the current thinking. Key factors include:
1.) If the storm is more intense than currently modeled, it would increase the risk for higher wind gusts, wind damage, heavy rainfall and coastal flood issues.
2.) Storm track subtleties could cause some impacts of areas of strong to damaging winds in the currently depicted wind advisory and high wind warning areas.
3.) Heavy rainfall will be spread out over a long duration which should lessen the potential for flash flooding, however, we will need to monitor if any heavier rate rainfall bands develop and train over a given area. If so, this could increase flood potential particularly if its over an urban or poor drainage area.
