Severe Weather Coordination Message #1 – Thursday 8/27/26 Severe Weather Potential

Hello to all…

..Isolated to scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are possible Thursday Afternoon and evening with strong to damaging winds, hail, frequent lightning and heavy downpours leading to urban and poor drainage flooding as the main threats..

..The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed Western Massachusetts and Western Connecticut in a marginal risk for severe weather anytime between 2 PM-12 AM Thursday Afternoon and Evening with the greatest time window for this potential between 5-10 PM late Thursday PM and Evening..

..The severe weather potential for Thursday Afternoon and evening is contingent on the level of instability over the area and the amount and timing of forcing to take advantage of sufficient wind shear profiles to produce severe weather. While the greatest severe weather risk is further west in Eastern New York, some models time the potential early enough to bring severe weather into portions of interior Southern New England possibly as far east as Worcester County Mass into Northern Connecticut Thursday Afternoon and Evening..

..SKYWARN Self-Activation with Amateur Radio Call-Up Nets if warnings are issued will monitor the severe weather potential for Thursday Afternoon into Thursday Evening. Pictures and videos of wind damage, hail, flooding etc. can be sent as a reply to this email, via our Facebook/X/Bluesky feeds or the email address pics@nsradio.org with credit given to the spotter unless otherwise indicated.
