Severe Weather Coordination Message #1 – Friday Late PM/Evening 10/16/26 Severe Weather Potential
Hello to all…
..Isolated to scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are possible late Friday Afternoon and evening with strong to damaging winds as the main threat but hail, frequent lightning and heavy downpours leading to urban and poor drainage flooding as secondary threats..
..The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed Western Connecticut in a slight risk for severe weather with the rest of Connecticut, Rhode Island and Southwest, South-Central and Southeast Massachusetts in a Marginal risk for severe weather for Friday Afternoon and Evening and all areas of Southern New England should monitor. Threat timeframe is between 5-11 PM Friday Afternoon/Evening..
..The severe weather potential for late Friday Afternoon and evening is contingent on the level of instability over the area and the amount and timing of forcing to take advantage of sufficient wind shear profiles to produce severe weather and if needed, overcome weak instability if higher instability thresholds are not reached..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation with Amateur Radio Call-Up Nets if warnings are issued will monitor the severe weather potential for late Friday PM and Evening. Pictures and videos of wind damage, hail, flooding etc. can be sent as a reply to this email, via our Facebook/X/Bluesky feeds or the email address pics@nsradio.org with credit given to the spotter unless otherwise indicated. Another coordination message will be posted by 1130 AM Friday AM. Below is the NWS Boston/Norton Area Forecast Discussion, Enhanced Hazardous Weather Outlook and SPC Day-2 Convective Outlook.
