Severe Weather Coordination Message #2 – Friday Late PM/Evening 10/16/26 Severe Weather Potential

Hello to all…

..Isolated to scattered strong to severe thunderstorms remain possible late Friday Afternoon and evening with strong to damaging winds as the main threat but hail, frequent lightning and heavy downpours leading to urban and poor drainage flooding as secondary threats..

..The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed Western Connecticut in a slight risk for severe weather with the rest of Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts in a Marginal risk for severe weather for Friday Afternoon and Evening. Threat timeframe remains between 5-11 PM Friday Afternoon/Evening. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is posted for Litchfield County CT until 1000 PM meaning conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area..

..The severe weather potential for late Friday Afternoon and evening remains contingent on the level of instability over the area and the amount and timing of forcing to take advantage of sufficient wind shear profiles to produce severe weather and if needed, overcome weak instability if higher instability thresholds are not reached..

..SKYWARN Self-Activation with Amateur Radio Call-Up Nets if warnings are issued will monitor the severe weather potential for late Friday PM and Evening. Pictures and videos of wind damage, hail, flooding etc. can be sent as a reply to this email, via our Facebook/X/Bluesky feeds or the email address pics@nsradio.org with credit given to the spotter unless otherwise indicated. This will be the last coordination message as we shift to operations mode. Below is the NWS Boston/Norton Area Forecast Discussion, Enhanced Hazardous Weather Outlook and SPC Day-1 Convective Outlook.
