A moderate snowstorm and wintry mix is expected across Southern New England Tuesday Afternoon into Wednesday Morning with significant snowfall rates of 1-2″ per hour affecting the region during the late afternoon and evening commute that will bear close watching. The headlines depict the current thinking with the Winter Storm Watch converted to a Winter Storm Warning in Northwest, North-Central and Northeast Massachusetts and Winter Weather Advisories posted elsewhere. Key factors for this storm system remain when does the changeover from heavy snow to mixed precipitation occur across the region. Just 1-2 hours difference in the changeover in precipitation type could make the difference between higher snow accumulations versus more sleet and freezing rain. The latest high resolution model data has been incorporated to convert the Winter Storm Watch to Warnings and advisories where needed.

SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor the winter storm Tuesday Afternoon into Wednesday Morning. This will be the last coordination message on this winter storm potential.
