Severe Weather Coordination Message #1 – Sunday AM 8/23/26 Heavy Rainfall in Southeast Area/Sunday PM Severe Weather Potential

Hello to all…

..Heavy Rainfall is possible in portions of Southeast New England overnight into early Sunday Morning. As that moves out, there will be a risk of isolated to scattered strong to severe thunderstorms with strong to damaging winds, hail, frequent lightning and heavy downpours leading to urban and poor drainage flooding as the main threats. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed much of interior Southern New England in a marginal risk for severe weather anytime between 3-9 PM Sunday Afternoon and Evening..

..The severe weather potential for Sunday Afternoon and evening is contingent on the level of instability over the area given the potential for extensive cloud cover or strong wind shear compensating for limited instability along with cooling aloft reaching the marginal risk area during the afternoon and evening hours..

..SKYWARN Self-Activation with Amateur Radio Call-Up Nets if warnings are issued will monitor the severe weather potential for mid to late Sunday Afternoon into Sunday Evening with rain gauge totals monitored Sunday AM for southeast areas. Pictures and videos of wind damage, hail, flooding etc. can be sent as a reply to this email, via our Facebook/X/Bluesky feeds or the email address pics@nsradio.org with credit given to the spotter unless otherwise indicated. Another coordination message will be posted by 1130 AM Sunday AM. Below is the NWS Boston/Norton Area Forecast Discussion, Enhanced Hazardous Weather Outlook and SPC Day-2 Convective Outlook.
