Storm Coordination Message #1 – Monday 1/5/15 Strong Wind/Snow Squall Potential

Hello to all..

..Strong Winds and the potential for Snow Squalls Over Portions of Southern New England as the pattern changes to much colder weather over the course of this week..
..A Wind Advisory is now in effect through 7 PM this evening for the entire NWS Taunton coverage area for sustained winds of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH likely. These winds may result in isolated tree and wire damage and power outages..
..As we get into later this morning and this afternoon, the potential exists for snow showers and snow squalls. While these snow showers and snow squalls will be brief and it is unclear on the extent of these snow showers and snow squalls, they could produce a quick inch of snow with reduced visibilities and if timed near or during the afternoon rush hour, the snow showers/squalls could cause travel concerns/delays..
..It is noted that a light snowfall may affect parts of the area Tuesday followed by dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills on Wednesday into Thursday. These potential weather scenarios will be covered as needed in future coordination messages..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor the strong winds and snow shower/squall activity for today. This will be the only coordination message for today’s event unless a significant upgrade to the situation occurs. Below is the NWS Taunton Wind Advisory Statement, Special Weather Statement on the Snow Squalls and Hazardous Weather Outlook as well as a NWS Taunton PDF document regarding today’s weather through mid-week..
