Storm Coordination Message #2 – Saturday Night 3/9/24 Through Sunday AM 3/10/24 Multi-Storm Hazards

Hello to all…

..Strong storm system will bring a period of heavy rain and urban, poor drainage, river and stream flooding to much of Southern New England with rainfall amounts of around 1-2″, widespread pockets of minor to possibly moderate coastal flooding at the time of high tide depending on the timing of strong winds to overlap with the Sunday Morning high tide and strong to damaging winds to East Coastal Massachusetts and Southeast New England. Higher elevation snow across Northern Massachusetts and the East slopes of the Berkshires is expected to be below Winter Weather Advisory levels with a coating to 2″ of snow but this will be monitored..
..A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 6 AM Sunday Morning through 2 PM Sunday Afternoon for Southern Bristol, Southern Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes, Nantucket Counties of Massachusetts, Southeast Providence, Eastern Kent, Bristol, Washington and Newport Counties of Rhode Island for minor coastal flooding at the time of high tide and the potential for a few road closures due to coastal flooding..
..A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for Eastern Essex, Suffolk, Eastern Norfolk, and Eastern Plymouth Counties of Massachusetts from 9 AM-4 PM Sunday for minor coastal flooding of shore roads at the time of high tide with a few road closures possible..
..A Wind Advisory is in effect from from 12 AM to 10 AM Sunday and is now in effect for Southeast Providence, Kent, Washington, Newport Counties of Rhode Island including Block Island Rhode Island, Essex, Southeast Middlesex,Suffolk, Eastern Norfolk, Bristol, Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket Counties of Massachusetts for sustained winds 25-35 MPH with gusts up to 55 MPH and isolated higher gusts possible. These winds will likely cause isolated to scattered pockets of tree and wire damage and power outages..
..A Flood Watch is now in effect for the entire NWS Norton Coverage Area except for Cape Cod and the Islands due to 1-2″ of rainfall in a relatively short period of time causing an increased risk for urban and poor drainage flooding than expected this morning in addition to keeping rivers where river flood warnings are in effect in flood for a longer period of time with some expansion to small rivers and streams possible..

SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor for Rain Gauge reports 1″ or more, any flooding from heavy rainfall, any snowfall measurements in the Northwest Massachusetts higher elevations, coastal flooding and wind damage potential overnight into Sunday Morning.
