This rain along with wet antecedent conditions could bring renewed river, stream, urban and poor drainage flooding in portions of Northeast Connecticut, Rhode Island and Eastern Massachusetts..

Below are all the details including livestream information for the 2024 National Hurricane Conference Amateur Radio Workshop in Orlando FL:

Amateur Radio will again be represented at the 2024 National Hurricane Conference which will be held this year in Orlando Florida (https://www.hurricanemeeting.com). This year, the workshop will be done both live at the conference and over a livestream so this will be a “hybrid workshop”. The conference theme is to improve hurricane preparedness as it has been in past years. After the workshop is completed, the Amateur Radio Workshop will be uploaded to Youtube for those that can’t attend the sessions live. For 2024, all the Amateur Radio sessions will be on Tuesday March 26th, 2024 from 130-300 PM EDT and from 330-500 PM EDT. Here is the session breakdown:

NHC Session #1 – 130 PM-300 PM EDT: John Cangialosi, Senior Hurricane Specialist, from the National Hurricane Center will also present on the importance of Amateur Radio surface reporting. Bob Robichaud-VE1MBR from the Canadian Hurricane Centre will provide a video on a Canadian Hurricane Centre Overview and a few meteorological topics via a video recording. Julio Ripoll-WD4R will present WX4NHC Operations and Bobby Graves-KB5HAV will present an overview on the Hurricane Watch Net (HWN).

NHC Session #2: 330 PM-500 PM EDT: Rob Macedo-KD1CY will present on the VoIP Hurricane Net and best practices in SKYWARN Tropical Systems presentation, Joe Bassett-W1WCN will provide a SATERN (Salvation Army Team Emergency Response Radio Network) overview video. Amateur Radio presentations will be recorded and posted to Youtube after the workshop within the month of April. The Amateur Radio presentations will also be livestreamed via Youtube as a best effort. ..Storm system is bringing a wintry mix of snow/sleet/freezing rain to Western and Central Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut a bit further south and east than expected but is still expected to change to rain heavy at times in these areas with rain heavy at times across Connecticut, Rhode Island, South Central and Eastern Massachusetts which could lead to a renewed risk of flooding of small rivers, streams, urban and poor drainage areas early Saturday Morning through Sunday Morning..
..A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 12 PM Saturday for Hartford County CT, Franklin, Hampshire, Hampden, Northern Worcester and Northern Middlesex Counties of Massachusetts and expanded to include Tolland, Windham Counties of Connecticut and Southern Worcester County Massachusetts for a trace to 0.25″ of ice with the highest icing in the east slopes of the Berkshires and Worcester Hills. Northeast Massachusetts could see light icing this morning with trace amounts changing to rain later this morning. The icing could cause slippery travel conditions and where amounts of icing reach 0.25″, isolated pockets of tree and wire damage and power outages from icing..
..A Flood Watch remains in effect from Saturday Morning to Sunday Morning for Connecticut, Rhode Island, Hampden, Southern Worcester, Essex, Central and Southeast Middlesex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Bristol, Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket Counties of Massachusetts for excessive rainfall of 2-3″ with higher amounts possible having the potential to cause flooding of small rivers, streams, urban and poor drainage areas..
..A Wind Advisory is now in effect from 5 PM to 11 PM Saturday Afternoon and Evening for Eastern Kent, Bristol, Washington, Newport Counties of Rhode Island including Block Island and Southeast Massachusetts including Bristol, Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket Counties of Massachusetts for sustained winds of 20-30 MPH with gusts up to 50 MPH. Areas outside of the Wind Advisory in East Coastal Massachusetts could see wind gusts to 40 MPH. These winds will cause isolated to scattered pockets of tree and wire damage and power outages..

A storm system is bringing a wintry mix changing to rain in Western, Central Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut with heavy rain and potential flooding across Connecticut, Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts and the potential for strong to damaging winds in Southeast Massachusetts and Southeast/South-Central Rhode Island. The headlines depict the current thinking. Key factors include:

1.) Monitoring the wintry mix changeover to rain and timing for any increase or decrease in snow/ice accumulations. Currently, the wintry mix has been able to take a hold a bit further south and east across Northern Connecticut into central and even parts of Northeast Mass with slightly higher icing possible especially in the higher elevations of Western and Central Massachusetts but a changeover to rain is still expected by around 12 PM today.
2.) Axis of heavy rainfall and where isolated or an axis of highest amounts setup in the flood watch area. This is currently expected across Connecticut, Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts and will be closely monitored.
3.) How the heavy rainfall and the amount that falls in a given amount of time affects rivers, streams, urban and poor drainage areas.
4.) A period of strong to damaging winds with the heaviest rainfall later this Saturday afternoon and evening in South-Central Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts could cause isolated to scattered pockets of wind damage in this area.

..A Wind Advisory is in effect from 8 AM Monday Morning through 1 AM Tuesday for all of the NWS Norton Coverage Area except for Western Franklin, Western Hampshire, and Western Hampden Counties of Massachusetts where the advisory is in effect through 8 AM Tuesday. In the advisory area, sustained winds of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 50-55 MPH are likely with the strongest winds in the highest elevations of Western Massachusetts. Isolated to scattered pockets of tree and wire damage with power outages is likely in the advisory area..

..Strong storm system will bring a period of heavy rain and urban, poor drainage, river and stream flooding to much of Southern New England with rainfall amounts of around 1-2″, widespread pockets of minor to possibly moderate coastal flooding at the time of high tide depending on the timing of strong winds to overlap with the Sunday Morning high tide and strong to damaging winds to East Coastal Massachusetts and Southeast New England. Higher elevation snow across Northern Massachusetts and the East slopes of the Berkshires is expected to be below Winter Weather Advisory levels with a coating to 2″ of snow but this will be monitored..
..A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 6 AM Sunday Morning through 2 PM Sunday Afternoon for Southern Bristol, Southern Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes, Nantucket Counties of Massachusetts, Southeast Providence, Eastern Kent, Bristol, Washington and Newport Counties of Rhode Island for minor coastal flooding at the time of high tide and the potential for a few road closures due to coastal flooding..
..A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for Eastern Essex, Suffolk, Eastern Norfolk, and Eastern Plymouth Counties of Massachusetts from 9 AM-4 PM Sunday for minor coastal flooding of shore roads at the time of high tide with a few road closures possible..
..A Wind Advisory is in effect from from 12 AM to 10 AM Sunday and is now in effect for Southeast Providence, Kent, Washington, Newport Counties of Rhode Island including Block Island Rhode Island, Essex, Southeast Middlesex,Suffolk, Eastern Norfolk, Bristol, Plymouth, Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket Counties of Massachusetts for sustained winds 25-35 MPH with gusts up to 55 MPH and isolated higher gusts possible.
