Storm Coordination Message #3 – Late Sunday Afternoon 3/1/15 through Early Monday Morning 3/2/15 Winter Storm Potential

Hello to all..

..Another winter storm will affect Southern New England late Sunday Afternoon through early Monday Morning Bringing a Moderate Snowfall to the region..
..A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect from 3 PM Sunday Afternoon through 7 AM Monday Morning for Bristol and Plymouth Counties of Massachusetts and all of Rhode Island except for Northwest Providence County Rhode Island for 4-8″ of snow. The snow has the potential to be heavy and wet potentially exacerbating roof snow loading issues..
..A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect from Noon Sunday to 7 AM Monday for Barnstable County for 3-6″ of snow with the highest amounts near the Cape Cod Canal..
..A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect from Noon Sunday to 7 AM Monday for Franklin, Hampshire, Hampden, Worcester, Middlesex, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk Counties of Massachusetts, Northern Connecticut and Northwest Providence County Rhode Island for 3-6″ of snow..
..A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect from Noon Sunday to 7 AM Monday for Dukes and Nantucket Counties of Massachusetts and Block Island Rhode Island for 2-4″ of snow and light freezing rain causing a coating of ice..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor this storm system for snowfall reports and possibly changeover in precipitation type along the islands..

Another winter storm in the endless series of winter storms for the 2014-2015 Winter Season will affect the region Sunday Afternoon through early Monday Morning. The headlines of this message depict the latest thinking on this winter storm with the biggest change being the issuance of Winter Storm Warnings for most of Rhode Island and Bristol and Plymouth Counties of Massachusetts and the expansion of Winter Weather Advisories which are replacing the Winter Storm Watch over Northern Connecticut, Northwest Rhode Island and through the Metro Boston area. It is noted there could be some mixed precipitation but that continues to be confined to the islands versus in the south coastal portion of Massachusetts an Rhode Island. Northern parts of the NWS Taunton coverage area are expected to see advisory level snowfall amounts slightly lower than the Winter Storm Watch area.

This winter storm followed by another winter storm later this week could exacerbate roof issues. It is a continuing imperative to clear roofs of prior snowfall. The following link provides Roof Collapse and Storm Drain Safety Information via the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency:

This will likely be the last coordination message on this system.
