Storm Coordination Message #2 – Monday Evening 11/26/18 – Tuesday Morning 11/27/18 Coastal Storm Potential
Hello to all…
..Yet another strong storm system to bring another soaking rainfall with urban and poor drainage flooding possible, strong to damaging winds, minor coastal flooding and even some snow and ice to extreme Northwest Massachusetts..
..A High Wind Warning is now in effect from 9 PM Monday Evening through 5 AM Tuesday Morning for Eastern Plymouth County Massachusetts and Cape Cod and the Islands for sustained winds of 25 to 35 MPH with gusts to 60 MPH. A Wind Advisory is now in effect for Eastern Essex, Suffolk, Southeast Middlesex and Eastern Norfolk Counties of Massachusetts from 8 PM Monday Evening through 6 AM Tuesday Morning for sustained winds of 15 to 25 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH with isolated higher gusts in the Blue Hill area of Eastern Norfolk County. A Wind Advisory is now in effect from 8 PM Monday Evening to 4 AM Tuesday Morning for South Coastal Massachusetts and Rhode Island including Block Island Rhode Island for sustained winds of 15-30 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH. These winds will have the potential to cause isolated to scattered pockets of tree and wire damage and isolated power outages..
..A Coastal Flood Advisory is now in effect for East Coastal Massachusetts including Cape Cod and Nantucket Island through 5 AM Tuesday Morning for the overnight high tide cycle. Coastal flooding will likely be largely minor with the most vulnerable shore roads flooded during high tide both at midday and overnight..
..A Winter Weather Advisory is now in effect for Western Franklin County Massachusetts from 8 PM Monday Evening through 10 AM Tuesday Morning for 1-5″ of snow and a trace to one-tenth of an inch of ice particularly at elevations around or above 1500 feet with wind gusts up to 35 MPH. Other higher terrain areas of Western Massachusetts are expected to be below Winter Weather Advisory levels but this will be monitored closely..

Another strong storm system is expected to affect the region tonight into Tuesday Morning. The headlines depict the latest on the storm potential with some adjustments to the High Wind Watch area being converted to a High Wind Warning and Wind Advisories being posted in Northeast Coastal Massachusetts through Southeast Middlesex and Eastern Norfolk Counties. Winds with this storm system have the potential to be stronger than the last storm system but damage potential should be more limited owing to no leaves on the trees. Another 1-1.5 inches of rain for the area will add to already soaked grounds and may result in urban and poor drainage flooding. The lowest confidence portion of the forecast remains any snow potential in Northwest Massachusetts as just a degree or two in temperature and slightly different timing in the changeover in precipitation will result in significant changes in snow totals in this area.
