There may also be a brief period of snow and ice at the onset in the higher elevations of northwest New England..
..A High Wind Warning is now in effect from 10 AM-2 PM for Nantucket Island for sustained winds of 25-30 MPH with gusts to 60 MPH. A Wind Advisory is now in effect from 10 AM-4 PM Tuesday for Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard for sustained winds of 15-25 MPH with gusts to 50 MPH. Other portions of South Coastal New England could see wind gusts to 40 MPH around late morning through mid-afternoon today. Another round of strong to damaging winds are possible Wednesday in Central and Eastern New England..
..A Flood Watch is now in effect for Southern Bristol and Southern Plymouth Counties of Massachusetts and Kent, Bristol, Washington and Newport Counties of Rhode Island for 1-2″ of rainfall with isolated higher amounts leading to the potential for urban and poor drainage flooding and possibly some small river and stream flooding..

The headlines depict the latest thinking and include the addition of a Flood Watch for the Fall River, New Bedford, Wareham area of South Coastal Massachusetts and Central and Southern Rhode Island. The strong to damaging wind potential still looks most likely across Cape Cod and the Islands with wind gusts possibly reaching 40 MPH elsewhere in Southeast New England. There will also be another pulse of strong to possibly damaging winds later Tuesday Evening through Wednesday Morning over parts of Southern New England. Wind Advisories may be posted for other parts of Southern New England for later Tuesday into Wednesday in addition to the first round of winds during the day Tuesday.

..A Flood Watch remains in effect from Friday Afternoon into Saturday Afternoon for the entire NWS Boston/Norton coverage area except for Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Island. The Flood Watch has been expanded into Barnstable County Massachusetts. The Watch is in effect for widespread 1-2″ of rainfall with isolated higher amounts to 2.5″ possible. Given the wet weather pattern and additional rainfall, this will potentially lead to urban and poor drainage flooding as well as the potential for small river and stream flooding..
..A Wind Advisory is now in effect from 10 PM Friday Night through 7 PM Saturday Evening for Cape Cod and the Islands for sustained winds of 20-30 MPH with wind gusts to 50 MPH. A Wind Advisory is now in effect for Rhode Island and Central and Eastern Massachusetts from 10 AM to 7 PM Saturday. These winds will cause isolated pockets of tree and power line damage and isolated power outages..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor the strong to damaging wind and flood potential for late Friday Afternoon through early Saturday Evening..

The major update for this message is that the Flood Watch has been expanded into Barnstable County Massachusetts and the Wind Advisory has been extended through 7 PM Saturday for Cape Cod and the Islands and expanded in area from 10 AM-7 PM Saturday for Central and Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island as confidence as grown on another round of strong winds behind the storm system on Saturday. This will likely be the last coordination message on this storm system unless there is a significant upgrade to the situation and time allows for an update. The remainder is unchanged.

Another dynamic storm system will swing through Southern New England Friday Night into Saturday. It will bring heavy rain across the NWS Boston/Norton coverage area late Friday Afternoon into early Saturday Morning as well as the potential for strong to damaging winds in two phases. The first phase of winds with the heavy rainfall and any thunderstorm activity Friday Evening into early Saturday Morning with the strongest winds centered across Southeast Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The second phase of the strong winds will affect the region Saturday Afternoon into the early evening as the storm swings through the region and those winds could affect much of the NWS Boston/Norton coverage area. These winds are not expected to be quite as strong as last Saturday but will have the potential for isolated pockets of tree and wire damage and isolated power outages. Heavy rainfall may produce flooding given the wet pattern of the last 6 weeks and there could be localized higher amounts that enhance flooding in some areas. Urban and poor drainage flooding may also be a greater issue due to leave clogged storm drains.

Any thunderstorms with the heavy rainfall may have the potential to enhance the strong to damaging winds reaching the surface Friday Night. This potential will be monitored closely.

Understanding its just a few days away etc., we wanted to let folks know about a special event sponsored by the Blue Hill Observatory. Jim Cantore from the Weather Channel will be doing a presentation with fun video clips and Q &A preceded by a dinner and presentations by Joe D’Aleo and Herb Stevens, two of the founders of The Weather Channel. This is a rare chance to see Jim Cantore, other presenters and other local TV Meteorologists for an evening of exciting weather stories and presentations.
