..A Flood Watch is in effect through late Monday Night for Northern Connecticut, Rhode Island, Eastern Hampden County through Central and Eastern Massachusetts except for Cape Cod and the Islands. Widespread 1-3″ rainfall is expected in the flood watch area with isolated locations or a band of locations potentially having 3″+ of rainfall. This rainfall combined with prior wet conditions and rainfall can lead to urban, poor drainage, small river and stream flooding..
..The threat of severe weather is low but will also monitor any thunderstorm development for an isolated strong to severe thunderstorm with strong to damaging winds as a secondary threat for Monday Evening..

..The Tropical Storm Warning is now expanded to cover Merrimack River Massachusetts to Westport Massachusetts including Cape Cod, Marthas Vineyard and Nantucket and includes Eastern Essex, Suffolk, Eastern Norfolk, Eastern Plymouth, Southern Plymouth, Southern Bristol, Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket Counties of Massachusetts for sustained winds 25-40 MPH with gusts to 50-60 MPH with isolated higher gusts possible and the strongest winds over Cape Cod and Nantucket. These winds will cause isolated to scattered pockets of tree and wire damage and isolated to scattered power outages..
..The Tropical Storm Watch west of Westport, Mass to Watch Hill RI has been discontinued. This part of the coast will receive sustained winds 15-20 MPH with wind gusts 30-40 MPH..

Hurricane Lee while currently expected to track approximately 100-150 miles east of Cape Cod and Nantucket will bring tropical storm force conditions to the Tropical Storm Warning area. This means heavy rainfall for Southeast Massachusetts including the Cape and Islands as indicated in the headlines, strong to damaging winds that could be exacerbated by saturated soils and fully leaved out trees and coastal storm surge flooding in portions of coastal Southern New England. The headlines depict the current thinking. Key factors include:

1.) The track of Lee can still have about 50-75 nautical mile error. The current track guidance gives the current set of conditions. If the track shifts further east, the impacts would be lessened and confined to the Eastern Massachusetts coast. If the track shifts west, it would expand the tropical storm force conditions further into Southern New England.
2.) Lee’s large size and any expansion in size depending on the track could also expand impacts in Southern New England or make impacts in the current Tropical Storm Warning area higher. This will be monitored. From the 2 PM advisory to the current advisory, the tropical storm force wind field expanded from 290 miles to 345 miles and this will continue to be monitored.
3.) Timing and track of Lee’s approach to the region with the high tide cycle will determine extent of coastal flooding and the headlines depict the current thinking.
4.) The track will determine how much rainfall and where the heaviest will fall in the region and the headlines depict the current thinking.

..Severe Weather Potential is low but flooding/flash flooding from tropical downpours and strong thunderstorms is a concern across portions of Southern New England this Monday Afternoon and Evening particularly if areas that received heavy rainfall Friday through Sunday receive additional rainfall today..
..A Flood Watch is in effect through late Monday Night for Northern Connecticut, Rhode Island, Central and Eastern Massachusetts except for Cape Cod and the Islands for 1.5-3″ of rainfall causing flooding of urban and poor drainage areas and possibly small rivers and streams particularly if heavy rain lines up over areas affected by previous rainfall over the last 3 days. Heaviest rainfall is expected between 2-8 PM Monday and could affect the evening commute..

..Widespread pockets of damaging winds with some hail occurred with the hardest hit areas being Central and Northeast Massachusetts with more scattered pockets of wind damage and hail across Western Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut. Some flooding occurred as well in the urban and poor drainage locations and areas receiving persistent heavy rainfall. At the height of the severe weather, over 58,000 customers were without power in Massachusetts centered in Central and Northeast Massachusetts..
..Late reports and any pictures and videos of wind damage, flooding and hail from this severe weather outbreak can be sent as a reply to this email, via our WX1BOX Facebook and Twitter feeds and via the email address pics@nsradio.org with credit be given to the Amateur Radio/non-Amateur Radio spotter for the photo unless otherwise indicated..

..Isolated to Scattered Strong to Severe Thunderstorms likely Friday through 10 PM Friday Evening across Western, Central, Northeast Massachusetts, Northern Connecticut and Northwest Rhode Island. Strong to damaging winds, hail, frequent lightning and heavy rainfall leading to urban and poor drainage flooding are the main threats. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has continued much of this area in a slight risk for severe weather with a marginal risk of severe weather southeast to the Boston to Providence line area..
