..Friday continued extreme heat over Southern New England but less thunderstorm activity than prior days with strong thunderstorms doing minor wind damage in parts of Berkshire County Mass late Friday Night before weakening moving into our coverage area. The WX1BOX Amateur Radio Report log for Thursday Evening 7/2/26 and for the 7/1/26-7/2/26 and 6/30/26 severe weather events remain in this update..
..Intense Heat Wave winds down today, Saturday July 4th 2026, with very slightly cooler conditions which has meant the Extreme Heat Warning has been downgraded to a Heat Advisory but nonetheless caution is advised to stay cool due to several prior days of extreme heat and hot and humid conditions will continue today..
..A Heat Advisory is now in effect through 8 PM Saturday Evening for the entire NWS Norton Coverage Area except Nantucket for heat indices up to 102. Those working and recreating outside should take frequent breaks in Air Conditioned comfort and drink plenty of liquids. Conditions tonight should be a bit better than previous nights and much improved on Sunday from a heat perspective..
..For Saturday, there will be higher instability across the Mid-Atlantic states to our southwest but there will remain sufficient instability, energy, forcing, and wind shear for Isolated to Scattered Strong to severe thunderstorms across much of Southern New England with the greatest risk in Southwest Massachusetts and Connecticut. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed most of Connecticut in a slight risk for severe weather and the rest of Southern New England in a marginal risk for severe weather. Timeframe is between 2 PM-12 AM Saturday. Strong to damaging winds, hail, frequent lightning and heavy downpours leading to urban and poor drainage flooding would be the main threats..

..Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms once again occurred in portions of interior Massachusetts late Thursday Night into early Friday AM as a small complex of storms started in Southeast NY and traversed portions of Western and Central Massachusetts. The WX1BOX Amateur Radio Report log for Thursday Evening 7/2/26 into early Friday AM is included in this update along with report logs for the 7/1/26-7/2/26 and 6/30/26 severe weather events..
..Intense Heat Wave ongoing for much of Southern New England and continues through Saturday. Severe Weather potential for Friday PM/Evening overnight continues and while weather modeling seems to indicate the best threat for severe weather for Saturday 7/4/26 is southwest of our area, Southern New England should continue to monitor closely because as we saw late Thursday Evening, any thunderstorms that can develop and take advantage of the instability can quickly become severe..
..For Friday, Southern New England is in a slight risk for severe weather from roughly the CT River Valley of Western Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut with the rest of the region in a marginal risk for severe weather and Saturday has shifted marginal risk for severe weather southwest of area with a general thunderstorm risk over our area but this could change based on Friday severe thunderstorm complexes and other factors. These areas may shift and upgrade/downgrade in future updates..
..Strong to damaging winds, hail, frequent lightning and heavy downpours leading to urban and poor drainage flooding would be the main threats.. Areas outside of the severe weather risk area should also monitor conditions today through Saturday with the greatest risk Friday Afternoon to Saturday Evening at this time..
..Timing any severe weather potential is uncertain and will depend on impulses in the atmosphere, how close those impulses come to Southern New England and how any thunderstorm/convective development the prior day affects the next day’s convective potential..

A Heat Advisory is in effect through 8 PM Saturday Evening for Cape Cod and Marthas Vineyard for heat indices up to 104 degrees. Those working and recreating outside should take frequent breaks in Air Conditioned comfort and drink plenty of liquids. It is noted low temperatures are unlikely to get below 70 degrees and in a fairly large portion of the area may not get below 75 degrees meaning little relief to the heat during overnight hours..

..Intense Heat Wave ongoing for much of Southern New England and continues through Saturday. Severe Weather potential for Thursday is lower than the last two days but there is a non-zero risk for strong to severe thunderstorms this Thursday PM and evening with a greater risk for severe weather for Southern New England Friday Afternoon through Saturday Evening..
..For Thursday, the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed Southern New England is in a general risk for thunderstorms with a lower severe weather risk than prior days but it is a non-zero threat. For Friday, Southern New England is in a marginal risk for severe weather and Saturday has Southwest Massachusetts and much of Connecticut in a marginal risk for severe weather though all areas should monitor. Heat & Severe Weather Coordination Message #4 – Wednesday 7/1/26 Through Saturday 7/4/26 Heat & Severe Weather Potential

..Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms occurred in portions of interior Massachusetts mid-Tuesday PM into early evening. The complex of severe thunderstorms that entered Western Massachusetts and Northwest Connecticut weakened on arrival but did produce isolated pockets of wind damage in Western Massachusetts. A second complex moved through Western Massachusetts and Northwest Connecticut overnight and was non-severe. The WX1BOX Amateur Radio Report Log from Tuesday 6/30/26 is included in this update..
..Intense Heat Wave Will Impact much of Southern New England Wednesday through Saturday. Severe Weather is possible Wednesday PM into early Thursday AM with a lesser threat for later Thursday into Friday as the main action those days will be west of our area but our region cannot be ruled out completely on those days followed by a greater severe weather potential Saturday July 4th..
..Timing any severe weather potential is uncertain and will depend on impulses in the atmosphere, how close those impulses come to Southern New England and how any thunderstorm/convective development the prior day affects the next day’s convective potential..
..An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect through 8 PM Saturday Evening for the entire NWS Norton Coverage Area except Cape Cod and the Islands for Heat Indices up to 115 degrees. It is noted low temperatures are unlikely to get below 70 degrees and in a fairly large portion of the area may not get below 75 degrees meaning little relief to the heat during overnight hours..
..In addition, the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has continued Western and North-Central Massachusetts and Northwest Connecticut in a slight risk for severe weather Wednesday PM and Evening through the overnight hours to early Thursday AM for Northwest Connecticut, Western and North Central Massachusetts with marginal risk across the rest of Northern Connecticut and Central Massachusetts. We are currently in general thunderstorm risk for later Thursday into Friday which means a lower but non-zero threat for severe weather on those days with the main action west of our area but will continue to be monitored. Saturday July 4th again has higher severe weather potential..
..Strong to damaging winds, hail, frequent lightning and heavy downpours leading to urban and poor drainage flooding would be the main threats.. Areas outside of the severe weather risk area should also monitor conditions today through Saturday with the greatest risk Wednesday PM into early Thursday AM and Saturday at this time..
