Storm Coordination Message #2 – Monday 1/15/18 – Localized Snowfall Event for Parts of Eastern Massachusetts and Tuesday PM 1/16/18-Wednesday PM 1/17/18 Moderate Winter Storm Potential

..Advisory level snowfall still expected later this afternoon and evening across East Coastal Massachusetts and into parts of interior Plymouth and Eastern Norfolk County Massachusetts. A more widespread moderate snowstorm expected in Southern New England late Tuesday into Wednesday Afternoon..
..A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through 10 PM Monday Evening for Eastern Norfolk and North-Central and East Coastal Plymouth Counties of Massachusetts for 2-4″ of snow with isolated higher amounts in any persistent snow bands of 5-6″ possible. Areas through the North Shore and down to Cape Cod will see a dusting to possibly 1-2″ with isolated higher amounts in any persistent snow bands..
..A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Tuesday Afternoon to Wednesday Afternoon for Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Worcester, Middlesex and Essex Counties of Massachusetts for 4-7″ of snow. Areas outside of the Winter Storm Watch area may see advisory level snowfall but there is also the question of mixed precipitation or rain particularly from the I-95 corridor of Boston to Providence south and east to the coast line but also including other parts of Rhode Island and across Northern Connecticut..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor for snowfall reports across the Winter Weather Advisory area on Monday and across the region Tuesday Night into Wednesday Afternoon..

Ocean effect snow has caused some snowfall accumulations of mostly a dusting to 1″ but an areas across Northern Essex County from Rockport to Essex to Manchester to Gloucester Mass has had 1-3″ of snow. The snow bands are now moving closer to the Winter Weather Advisory area where snow is expected for the evening commute and current totals for the Winter Weather Advisory remains reasonable. Another coastal storm system will approach Southern New England late Tuesday into Wednesday Afternoon bringing a moderate plowable snowfall to much of interior and Northeast Coastal Massachusetts. Across Connecticut, Rhode Island and Eastern Massachusetts from the Metro Boston area southward through Southeast Massachusetts, advisory level snowfall is possible but there are also concerns about mixed precipitation in this area. The current snowfall amounts expected for this timeframe and mixed precipitation potential will become better defined in future forecasts.

SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor for snowfall reports across the Winter Weather Advisory area on Monday and across the region Tuesday Night into Wednesday Afternoon.
