Severe Weather Coordination Message #1 – Saturday PM & Evening 8/8/26 Severe Weather Potential
Hello to all…
..Friday Evening severe weather impacted portions of Central Connecticut and South-Central Massachusetts with the most significant wind damage in portions of Hartford County CT in the Bristol, Southington, Burlington, West Hartford, Hartford, Windsor CT area. This severe weather was expected to be southwest of our coverage area but advanced into Central Connecticut to South-Central Massachusetts. The WX1BOX Report log on this event is provided in this coordination message. Appreciation is extended to Amateur Radio and non-Amateur Radio SKYWARN Spotters who reacted on short notice providing reports in near real-time in this situation..
..For Saturday, another impulse in the atmosphere is expected to bring another round of isolated to scattered strong to severe thunderstorms across much of interior Southern New England during the mid to late afternoon to evening hours. Strong to damaging winds, hail, frequent lightning and urban and poor drainage to flash flooding are the main threats. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed much of Southern New England in a marginal risk for severe weather with a slight risk for severe weather in Southeast Massachusetts and Western Connecticut..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation with Amateur Radio Call-Up Nets if warnings are issued will monitor the severe weather potential for mid to late Saturday Afternoon into Saturday Evening. Pictures and videos of wind damage, hail, flooding etc. can be sent as a reply to this email, via our Facebook/X/Bluesky feeds or the email address pics@nsradio.org with credit given to the spotter unless otherwise indicated. This will be the only coordination message on the Saturday severe weather potential as we shift to operations mode.
