Storm Coordination Message #2 – Thursday Evening 3/5/26-Friday AM 3/6/26 Wintry Mix/Icing Potential
Hello to all…
..Wintry Mix will result in slippery travel conditions in portions of interior Southern New England with an extended period of freezing rain/icing possibly bringing the potential for isolated to scattered pockets of tree, wire damage and power outages..
..A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 12 PM Friday for Northern Connecticut, Northwest Providence County RI, Western Kent County RI, Franklin, Hampshire, Hampden, Worcester, Middlesex, Western Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex Counties of Massachusetts. For areas along and north of Route 2, 3-6″ of snow and sleet is possible with a light glaze of ice. For areas south of Route 2 in the advisory area, a coating to 2″ of snow/sleet and ice accretion anywhere from one-tenth to one-third of an inch of ice with isolated higher amounts causing slippery travel conditions and if the higher end of icing totals are reached, isolated to scattered pockets of tree, wire damage and power outages. Areas near and south of the advisory area may see a brief period of wintry mix and slippery travel before changing to rain with less overall impact..
..A small temperature difference of as little as 1 or 2 degrees could cause a significant change in the forecasted snowfall/icing amounts and will bear watching. Precipitation type changeover, snowfall reports and ice accretion amounts will be important during this storm event..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor for snow and ice accumulations and precipitation type changeover reports in the advisory area with Amateur Radio Call-Up Nets will occur on the 146.94-Mount Tom Repeater at 10 PM and 6 AM, 8 AM, 10 AM Friday Morning and various repeaters in the advisory area could have a net at anytime Friday Morning as needed. The *NEW-ENG3* Echolink conference node: 9123/IRLP 9123 system will be monitored from around 6-11 AM Friday for reports.
