Storm Coordination Message #2 – Christmas Eve Wednesday 12/24/14 into Christmas Day Thursday 12/25/14 Strong Storm System Potential

Hello to all..

..Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Happy Holidays to all SKYWARN Spotters and Amateur Radio Operators..
..Strong Storm System Will Affect the Region with Heavy Rainfall across much of Southern New England, Strong Winds across Southeast New England Wednesday late Afternoon through Christmas Morning and possibly minor coastal flooding at the time of the Wednesday midday high tide..
..A Flood Watch is in effect from Wednesday Afternoon through Christmas Morning for all of Southern New England except for Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard and Block Island for the potential of urban and poor drainage flooding as 1-3″ of rain with localized higher amounts possible in the region. The heaviest rainfall is expected to occur this evening into Christmas Morning..
..A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 9 AM-4 PM Wednesday for East Coastal Massachusetts and Cape Cod for minor coastal flooding and beach erosion..
..A Wind Advisory is in effect from 10 PM Wednesday Evening to 7 AM Thursday Morning for Norfolk, Bristol, Plymouth Counties of Massachusetts and Southeast Providence, Eastern Kent, Bristol and Newport Counties of Rhode Island for sustained winds of 15-25 MPH with wind gusts to 45-50 MPH. A Wind Advisory is in effect from 1 AM-9 AM Christmas Morning for sustained winds of 20-30 MPH with wind gusts to 45-50 MPN for Cape Cod and the Islands. It is noted that in these areas stronger winds could be possible if temperatures reach the low-mid 60s overnight and the strong wind field aloft is present or that stronger winds could be brought to the surface in any convective showers and/or thunderstorm activity. At this time, winds on Christmas Afternoon and Evening are expected to be below Wind Advisory criteria but could gusts to around 40 MPH across much of Southern New England..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor the storm system for this Christmas Eve into Christmas Day. This will likely be the last coordination message for this system unless a significant upgrade to the situation occurs or stronger winds are expected later on Christmas Day. Below is the NWS Taunton Flood Watch Statement, Coastal Flood Advisory Statement, Wind Advisory Statement and Hazardous Weather Outlook..
