Storm Coordination Message #1 – Saturday Night 2/17/18-Sunday Morning 2/18/18 Winter Storm Potential

Hello to all…

..Quick Hitting Winter Storm likely to bring a plowable snowfall to much of Southern New England. Confidence in snowfall amounts and storm scenario is moderate at this time with uncertainty as to the rain-snow line in Southeast New England and how far north and west the plowable snow will cover in Southern New England. A storm track closer to the coast means more mixing of rain in Southeast Coastal areas and heavier snow to the north and west while a track further south and east means lighter snowfall amounts in the region and no rain-snow mixing issues in Southeast New England..
..A Winter Storm Watch is now in effect for Saturday Night into early Sunday Morning for Eastern Hampden, Southern Worcester, Suffolk, Norfolk, Bristol and Plymouth Counties of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Northern Connecticut for 4-8″ of snow. The snow will be of heavier and wetter consistency and this could cause isolated pockets of tree and wire damage and isolated power outages if higher amounts are realized. 3-6″ of snow is possible north of the Winter Storm Watch area..
..SKYWARN Self-Activation will monitor for snowfall reports and wet snow damage reports. Another coordination message will be posted by 11 PM Friday Evening. Below is the NWS Taunton Winter Storm Watch Statement, Hazardous Weather Outlook, Enhanced Hazardous Weather Outlook and Snowfall Maps..
